I'm looking to get my dad a decent 4:3 LCD monitor for Father's day, but I can't seem to find anything through distributors. My dad is a real traditionalist, and for whatever reason insists that he doesn't like widescreen monitors.

I was hoping to find a 19" or a 21" available in Canada to replace his clunky 17" CRT.

Dell 2007FP is an option. Beware, though, that you are really paying a premium for the 4:3 screen format.

there was an old thread about 4:3 IPS monitors

contents:
Dell 2007fp
HP LP2065
NEC 2090uxi
LG Electronics Flatron L2000CP
NEC MultiSync LCD2070NX

and add LaCie 320

it all depends on your budget, what you consider "decent", and the needed pixel size and resolution... What resolution does he run the 17'' CRT at? (an equivalent or larger pixel size @ native resolution would probably decrease chances of him changing to a crappy looking non-native one)

(19'' are 5:4 (1280x1024) so not really traditionalist CRT 4:3 format, VA panel options would be NEC LCD1990SX, LCD1990FXp, EIZO S1921, 1932, 1961)

The best one would probably be the 21'' NEC LCD2190UXi (IPS)

PVA 21'' panels are in the LCD2190UXp, LCD2170NX, Eizo S2100 and Viewsonic VP2130b.

Haven't got much info on the stuff that's less high end. (there's a bunch of 19'' TN-panels on the market that might be "decent" enough and don't cost as much as a 19'' PVA or 26'' TN...)
