QuakeCon, Giant Hard Drive Rack!

Anyone know who built this huge hard drive rack at QuakeCon?

And how did they do it, exactly? How are they interfacing with the PC?

looks like there's just a bunch of rounded cables out of the back of it going to the mobo, i don't even think the guy's pc is in a case judging from the psu sitting there. although that could just be a seperate psu for all of the hard drives.

It probably is just for the hard drives.

At first I thought it was a Raid setup, but then I saw that the HDDs seem'd to be connected
to seperate IDE control boards (as found inside external HDD enclosures) but then I remembered
that removeable HDD racks also had them, so I'm assuming its the control boards from
removeable drive racks.

They all connect to a another cable that connects to a daughter board on the back of his
case, and the exposed psu is powering the drives.

wow everyone is waaaaayyy off... anywho

those are scsi disks... that really isnt anything amzing, i did something similar using some full hight scsi drives... you cant do something like that with IDE since IDE would be completely worthless at that cable length

also those are IBM SCSI drives, probably ~18gb... 7200rpm, maybe 10k...

I dont remember them being scsi. I did take a few pics of that at quakecon, but did not inquire about the HD's....

they ARE scsi drives, trust me on this one

Must be SCSI. If you look under the bottom most drive, you'll see a SCSI terminator. It's extremely easy to connect a slew of drives via SCSI.

I take offense to that being thought of as a case mod. It's just a guy with a small penis who wants to appear cool by having all these hard drives.
