I posted this on another forum just a couple of minutes ago, but I'm so excited about this I have to post it here as well

Wow.. this thing is amazing. I've tried Q3 countless times in the past years and it just didn't give me anything, I had more fun with Q4 (which was awesome IMO, no clue why multiplayer is dead).

I gotta say, it's a fucking blast, literally :p The graphics are VERY sharp, it seems like it's got some AA as well.

You'd think because it runs in your browser it would suck nuts, especially the graphics, but it feels JUST like the original Q3, and looks better to boot. You can also run it full screen (and by fullscreen, I mean full screen. No boarders or anything), and there's like 12 resolutions to choose from, even uncommon widescreen resses like 1680x1050 are there, and even 1600x1000.

There is also a nice little tutorial when you start telling you the basics. Although it was useless to me because I've played Quake before, it's nice to know the developers don't just cater to the hardcore fans/themselves and ignore newbies.

Much better than I even dreamed of! Can't wait for this beast to go live (pun :D). Wish I could make a video of the gameplay somehow, but since it runs in the browser, I don't think I can FRAPS it (might be against the terms, too).

My only complaint is that the website is a bit slow, especially downloading the info at first. I guess it's because it's getting hammered right now though (bunch of invites must have been sent out today).

PS, just a sidenote, in the website it says there are 201 players online right now (this is at 1:21 PM central time).

If anybody else has been invited as well, add NegativeFPS to your friends list, can pwn me anytime ;)

I've had my invite since July 18th. I'll admit I should have plenty of play time in, but I'm always distracted. I agree with you though, the experience is much better than I expected.

Nice, I've been waiting to take a look at this for a while. Haven't received anything from them yet though.

Ditto. Signed up twice -- the first time was almost immediately after it was announced -- and I'm still waiting. How long has Live been in beta now, anyway?

Yeah I signed up within 4 hours of the original enrollment and still no beta, nnnooooo

Same here. I signed up when it was originally announced, and no beta key in sight. I just resubmitted though, so maybe I'll have some better luck. It sounds promising. Anyone have any fullscreen screenshots? Is there an ETA, or 'when it's done'?

I've been in beta for a little over a month.

Nothing but good things to say really....

Hope you guys get your invites sooner rather than later!

I just went online (played offline before) and got wrecked. I only tried one server but two out of the 6 players there were real elitist jackasses, hope not everyone there is like that. One wanted me to leave and calling me names because he killed me too many times, and another on my team (it was TDM) wanted me to leave because I was a (racist word) (not a heterosexual) and a (not a pro that gets paid 1 mil a match)

And it will be released "when it's done" (what an annoying expression. How about I pay you "when I feel like it"?)

Thing I hate most about UT and Quake series is how I always end up spawning the farthest away from weapons as possible and then get camped by the same couple of people who have rocket launchers for the whole match. Nothing gets me as mad as that. I could boil water on my body on at those moments. They should make spawners invisible and unable to fire for 5 seconds to at least give them a chance. I suppose it rocks when you're the one kicking ass, but it's terrible to the person getting bombed before they can even turn around.

And I can't take screenshots :( I just tried using print screen and copy pasted it in Paint just have it paste a huge gray square.

The only complaint I really have is that they at one point, decided to nerf the lightning gun numerous times in a row, to the point of retardation.

Rockets are faster than vanilla Q3, and the rail does less damage. My LG accuracy is 42% on stats, and I'm positioned in the highest skill tier available for all game modes except for duel, where I'm 1 lower than the max. I beat the bot 20-1. Basically, the RL is stupidly effective now, and it's by far the most used weapon. QL is rocketfest compared to VQ3. Hopefully this will be changed in the future.

I used to see devs in games all the time, and it was nice to talk to them, but I dunno where they've been lately.

It supports any resolution you want pretty much, since you can set it manually if it's not in the menu. Expect 125 fps solid as long as your computer isn't a sewing machine. Netcode is overhauled from VQ3, higher pings are far more playable, but it's a little quirky at times. It does run from the browser (and actually plays within the browser) and yes it makes use of the OpenGL renderer.

It's still a lot of fun, and I've been spending a lot of time playing.

Hook me up with an invite puhhleleeeaase!!!!! I signed up with about 20 emails when it first went live, no dice. I know there are some extremely generous people here with extra invites At this point I aint to proud to beg :D

I'm signing up for beta. Free FPS games are always good, and this one looks like it actually might have some promise :D

I'm not usually one to say "sick", but...that's just sick.

Q3 certainly stole many hours of my life.. I look forward to this one especially since it runs in a browser (say wah?!).

ditto, stole is a polite way of putting it, Q3 more like rapes your soul and spits out the grizzle parts lol.. but hey i'm up for a little more soul torture.. i signed up as well and not a peep.. im gunna ignore it until they release the dumb thing... i guarantee though, that after a month i'll be bored of it and onto other games

Sadly there's no way to invite friends into the beta. You can "recommend" them through a form that will greatly increase the chance of them getting invited in the next batch of invites, though.

I used my two invites already to invite a couple of friends, sorry :(

Also, there's instagib mode in Q3L, it's by far the most fun... thing/game/mod I've ever played.. no joke.

Anybody know if there are any standalone instagib games? I know that UT has instagib, any others?

Haha! Nothing was quite as awesome as railguns only on... well... any Q3 map.

Darn, now I'm going to have to re-install Q3 tonight!

If you have Vista FRAPS can record the desktop, browser, pretty much anything. :)

Dude this looks awesome. Haven't played Q3 since the dreamcast. What kind of computer requirements are needed for this? I love some old school games.

Too bad its not the original Quake. Oh how i miss that

Computer requirements are: Core 2 Quad, 4GB, and a DX10 video card in the ~1 Teraflop range.

It's web based...your requirement = your internet.

My wife's Dell D600 laptop ran it perfectly fine at QuakeCon. Quake 3 is over 8 years old now, so anything released 6 years or less ago will be able to run it fine.

I've been on the beta for awhile, but I rarely play anymore because there are never any good CTF or CA games going during the times I usually play.

Is it VQ3 or is it closer to the gameplay of QW/CPMA?

I also signed up when it was originally announced and no key here either :(

Yep, waiting for mine... hopefully they send out another batch soon.

Although there are basically free versions of this anyways.... Open Arena?

It's pretty much Vanilla Quake 3 made free with a leaderboard system, matchmaking based on skill, friends system, tournaments and improved graphics and some weapon optimizations (and some other things I probably don't know about).

And of course it will run on your work computer where you will be getting paid money to play Q3 :)

Can't wait to see how many people get fired over this :p

Strict work places though I'm sure will get it blocked pretty quick if it isn't already.

i just signed up for the beta......something to play besides cod 4 and the random rpg. sweet.

Well i just got a new system so requirements no longer matter.

Reason i asked is because my old one was a celeron wit crappy gfx and 1 gig of ram. Hopefully I can get into the beta and test this game out i'd love to play some good ole Quake (For free)

I'm not sure but I'm almost positive Quake 3 came out around the time a P3, 64MB RAM and a Voodoo 3 were top of the line rigs. A celeron with onboard and 1GB RAM could probably run it at 200+ FPS on max settings.

Yeah i was thinking that too. It ran Day of Defeat fine in college. Problem was with the old one was missing about 1 quarter of the screen.

This new laptop can actually do some light gaming, but i've been so out of the PC loop i have no clue what to even try on it. This Quake Live is the only game so far that really catches my attention.

I just read about Quake Live and it sounds great. I used to love Q3 and I am sure I will this game. Is it using Flash? I'd love to know how this is playing in the browser. As long as the frame rate is 60fps and it is full screen, I will certainly play it.

I just signed up but from the looks of it, I have little change of getting into the beta.

And Q3 came out when the TNT2 Ultra (well 5 months later) and the P3 500MHzwas top of the line.
