Quake Live

Well, I signed for the beta. Now it's time to wait, and even though it looks rather interesting, I'm not sure about this one.
Well, at least it's supposedly gonna be free, so meh.
 
It's a free web based Quake game... it was announced at GDC. It's totally free and will be paid for via advertisements.

It's one of Carmack's side projects. Nothing other than that is really known at the moment. He was pretty excited about it.
 
This was announced a while ago.. pretty much its Quake 3 in your browser.
 
Actually, it's more like a standalone app that launches from a browser window (I guess the server browser is web-based), and not really so much of a web-based game.

I guess quakelive.com went live nearly a month ago. I sort of doubt any new submissions are going to get into the beta. How on Earth did I manage to miss this?
 
Yeah I signed up a while ago, I wonder if I'll be accepted, haven't played Q3 in ages, hopefully this will bring back some of the old community, heh.
 
the last thing the world needs more of is quake 3 .. talk about beating an already dead horse.. and this coming from a long time q3/3w player.. it's just played out and tired.. I'll give it a look-see once it comes out but doubt I will spend any substantial time on it..

rocket arena was fun times I loved the maps but I miss playing q3 dm good memories i signed it hope i get in
 
Yeah I hope I get in too, want to find players who actually still want to play this crazy twitch based game.
 
Haha, not sure how that is going to work, i dont think its browser based, but probably launched from the browser itself?
 
Most likely a new URI scheme (eg: quake://IP:pORT) that'll be registered in the browser and execute the app.
