Quake Catcher Network is Moving Again

With all of the moving around I've kinda lost interest in this project even though I live near big earthquake country. If this latest move ends up looking promising I might as well put my sensor back to work.

QCN will be moving in June 2016 to a new (hopefully permanent) home based at the University of Southern California (USC) and supported by IRIS (the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology) and the SCEC (Southern California Earthquake Center). There may be unexpected "down time" as the data and web addresses are moved to quakecatcher.net. If all goes well you shouldn't have to change your BOINC program, as the web name server (DNS) should resolve to our new server when it's all setup. If you're not afraid with BOINC, you may wish to (when the time comes) "Detach Project" and then "Attach Project" to Quake-Catcher Network Sensor Monitoring - Quake-Catcher Network Sensor Monitoring

Living myself on a hot-spot for quakes I wonder: How does it work ? what is the purpose ? Is it just collecting the statistics of quakes around the participating members ? Early-warning I guess its not ?

What sensor did you attached ? Would it run under Linux ? I wouldn't mind put it in addition on my folding box.

Quake Catcher Network

It is an NCI project. Some people have the usb sensors. some have Lenovo laptops, Macbooks, and HP laptops with the 3D hard drive software that utilize the acellerometers in the hard drives. Also, many of the older pre-v.5.0 Android devices would work.

I'm wondering if they are going to keep all of the QCN sister sites. Those seemed pointless to me but then again they never really got the intended support. All Inclusive DC Project list v.2

With the move to USC, we encourage you to update the project URL to ensure proper functionality going forward. In BOINC please detach from qcn.caltech.net) or qcn.stanford.edu) and attach to project: quakecatcher.net

Detailed instructions:

1. Open BOINC Manager
2. Remove qcn.stanford.edu/sensor (or qcn.stanford.edu/sensor)
   1. Go to ‘View’ –> ‘Advanced View’
   2. Click on the ‘Projects’ tab
   3. Click on ‘Quake-Catcher Network’ in the table to highlight the project
   4. Click the ‘Remove’ button on the left side and ‘Yes’ to confirm.
3. Add quakecatcher.net
   1. Go to ‘Tools’ –> ‘Add project or account manager’
   2. Click ‘Add Project’ and ‘Next’
   3. Enter as the Project URL: ‘QCN | The Quake-Catcher Network and click ‘Next’
   4. Click the ‘Yes, existing user’ button and enter your email and password associated with the QCN project.
   5. If you have a USB sensor, check under ‘Activity’ to ensure that you are set to ‘Run Always’.

BOINCStats should have this updated soon if not already. I did recall reading a thread mentioning it prior. Maybe I will look it back up later. But if you use BAM! as your account manager, you should be fine.
