With all this quake 4 news and footage coming out and I keep hearing about how Q4 takes off where Quake 2 ended, I felt I was missing something, since I never finished Q2!! I only played a few levels then Q3 came out and I just played that constantly. So I finally played Q2 start to finish and for being a really old game it still was pretty fun and there's lots of maps and enemies I encountered to get me more familiar with what to expect in Q4. And the secret room at the last map is funny too I had no idea they did that. Anyway, if your bored and never finished Q2 I'd say go for it, granted the gfx are old, the AI is horrible, but hey it's old school quake, and I enjoyed it.

play the WOMD mod. weapons of mass destruction. and not the updated one.

has nukes, lazers, freeze guns, homing misslies. teh works!

sucka outta play on a crappy old laptop too.. ahh the good old days

Q2 L-fire CTF was the SHIT! I also started to love playing Rocket Arena but that was more towards the end of my 7 years of playing that awesome game. I can't even remember how many clan matches I was in. I still have the game and a ton of my matches recorded on demo files. Ahhh, the good ole days. Now, once q3 came out and killed most of q2, it killed me too. I couldnt stand q3ctf, it was horrible and didnt even have a grapple, nothing like q2, just pure shit. I walked away from the game then got into CS and now the BF series.
I was really looking fwd to q4 since i heard it had q2 roots, but seeing the MP vids just made me cry, it was literally q3a in a doom3 engine, what a load of crap.

Yes it will work in XP. But don't just install it and play it. Grab this:

http://www.quake2evolved.com/news.htm

This is an addon that adds nifty shader effects and a nicer interface. Doesn't change the gameplay at all, just the rendering.

Thanks!

Just found a copy on gogamer for 7bucks.

That quake 2 evolved looks really nice. I can't wait to refresh my memory. I looked at some of the screenshots and none of it was stuff I remembered from the game.

I remember the guy who throws grenades and the flying things and I think I remember transporters.......bah........I'll find out in a week or so when it gets here. Get myself all tuned up for Quake 4.

good old days when companies made game to play. now they just mass marketing machines.

like little legue football >_<

i dunno if i like Q2E. I still like to reminis about the old Q2 engine. Like HL engine, no need to screw around with a good thing.

but undewater in that mod sure is purty

There are some others too. Q2 Max is pretty cool. There is also one in progress now that adds per-pixel lighting. I think there is a link to it from the Tenebrae site. Q2E doesn't really change much though. Just better effects for the most part. The levels and enemies all look the same.

Found a copy at gogamers for $7.95.
Downloading the evolved .40 and gonna give it a try.
Can't wait

woops....already said that first part once.

oh well......

Q2 fraggin here I come!

Since there has been a big revisting of quake since the release of the quake 3 source code I what people though the best single and multi player mods or expansions where for each of the quake games?
