God I was so set on the extreme but after reading some reviews, i dont know anymore...

I'm a hardcore gamer I really use this thing like 85% for games purley but I also do some light photoshop and other application work. What proc is gonna last me longer and give me the best performance??

if you are talking about the X6800 then i'd buy that insted, it has higher clocks by default and it overclocks better than the quad core, and you cant really do much with 4 cores.
but you dont really need to spend on such things, an 4300/6300 can be oced just as well and it gives perfect performance, but i guess those are not on ur list ^^

You'd get overall better performance in games with the X6800, however I think that the quad core is a better overall investment simply because your system will be overall smoother, as you could be doing other things with the system like recording a TV show or something while playing Stalker in all of its glory!

hmmm how about wait for price drops late this year on the Quad core.. intel prices are dropping dramatically.

My eyes are on the e6700 for $300-400 mark ;)

Btw keep eyes out on the E6320 its 1.8ghz but 4mb cache. as of right now its the same price as the e6300 but with extra 2 mb cache.

or E6420 as fast as the E6400 but yet again 4mb cache over the 2mb cache ;)

But those chips are coming out soon.. But it all depends what fancies ur pickle ;)

I'd seriously be kicking myself in the nuts for buying a $999 cpu that will loose 75% of it's value to a faster, cheaper cpu in less than 6 months. Go for something cheaper and oc the crap out of it. Even if you kill 3 of them in the process it's still a cheaper route.

If Supreme Commander is any indication, a quad-core will kick a dual-core's ass when it comes to the near distant gaming. Check out the front page article.
