That would be only 400W of power, about two full computers. It wouldn't be that big of a deal.
 
all the guys who jumped on the 2x6800 ultra sli or the 2x7800gtx sli in the first few weeks would also jump on this. guaranteed. gigabyte has been working on the project since at least may, so they believe theres a decent market for it. but intel?

Well, a 7800GTX in SLI is already severely CPU limited, having four of them is near pointless. :p

this is crap there is no way they have this thing working in SLI, 4 way SLI doesnt even exist in the driver and I dont think nvidia has figured out how it would be done i.e. AFR, SFR or another unknown method. This is just some guy with a supposidly 4 pci-e slots motherboard with 4 GTX cards in it and the bridges thats it. Show me Doom 3 running with three green lines accross the screen. :)
 
It would more than likely be AFR and theres nothing that says that nV isnt backing the "project" and has beta drivers for em to use...
 
Am I missing something? I thought that this was 2 7800GTX's and 2 7800GT's. I would imagine 4 Videocards in 2 seperate SLI setup powering two seperate monitors.

No that would be sweet.
 
I hope this is true cuz if there was such a thing as Quad 7800 GTXs ill buy that Mobo and 2 more Cards right now if it was out. If it let me play every game at 1920X1200 16AA X 16 Anis With HDR enabled i would Cream!
 
Well, it's not even 400W, its more on the order of 200W for the video cards. Anyway, you guys are all jealous, come on, it kicks ass.

I guess the power draw would be an issue, but with one of those PCPaC 850's you'd be fine... granted, those aren't cheap, but if your going to drop 2K on video cards your prolly in the $$. Anyways, the communication between the two card "sets" in quad SLi (one card set = two cards with sli bridge on them) can occur across the pci-e bus... and I think this might actuallty fully utilize the BW there for the 1st time... if this even really runs, which is all speculation at the moment...

From this pic., there is only 1 video card output to that dinosaur monitor. So w/ Quad SLI, you can have 1 output? And channel the GPU power of 4 cards to 1 output?

I don't see how SLI can realistically channel that much GPU power and really make use of it.
 
welll - clearly the card doing the "assembling" of the video data will be taxed, possibly quite a bit, so it will not be like having 4X the power... more like 3.somethingX the power... I rekon... I also have my doubts about that image being valid.

EDIT: I dunno tho... it's a good fake if it is. lol
 
Another thing... the "master" card in that setup is the top (closer to cpu) card in pair #2 (pair further from cpu), but you would think the "master" card would be the top card in pair#1 (closer to the cpu) like it is with two card SLi configs. ...but then again, the apparent two card SLi config for that board is to have the cards in the middle two pci-e slots... from the other photo I saw it appeared to be so, anyways... if that is even valid.. in theory it shouldn't matter which slots the cards are in, as long as all the pci-e slots are in the same 16x lane. so who the hell knows... lol
 
its a fake, in order to have 4X SLI you would most likely need a 4X bridge adapter.

Not necessarily, it's rumored that SLI is also possible without the bridge. If they could run it through the PCI bus that 4x setup wouldn't need more bandwidth than a 2x one. Question is if it is possible to SLI two non identical cards (GTs and GTXs).
 
It does work without the bridge, it's just a bit slower... we have not even tapped into all the BW in the 16x pci-e lane... that's the point I was trying to make above. the two card pairs would use their bridges to link the pairs, then the rest of the communication would take place over the pci-e bus. in theory :)

ok i suppose but I still dont believe it... sorry unless I see a working demo its not gona happen. Farcry running with 3 green lines (showing the load balancing between 4 cards will convince however).
 
i dont know. gigabyte has been releasing news updates about this board since may. why would they be faking it? the original config was either 2x3d1 or 4xsli. they seem to have dropped the 2x3d1 and are releasing the board as the g8n something "royal". think i will go for one of the 2xpcie16x boards tho.

yeah - I am purely speculating about what I guessed to be possible..(wild-ass guess) but now I am remembering I thought I read something about there being two nforce4 chips which would govern the two sli'd card pairs, which would make two 16x pci-e lanes... or maybe it was a dream. lol. I'll have to go read up some more again. :)
 
no i am referring to the new asus boards that come with 2 16x pcie slots "for full sli enjoyment" i think they were released the other day. i dont know if this is strictly an asus thing or a revision of the nf4. hope its a new nf4. i'd hate to have to buy an asus sli board.
guess i'll go check it out.

Oh yeah - that's the new nforce4 16x or something chipset... all the mobos will adopt that I am guessing, with some time. :)
 
Sooo, BTW, where does the XiFi sound card fit? Or does the "ultimate video" NOT come with audio? ;)

They should put a creative SB live 24bit chip on it like MSI does on their SLI boards... I <3 the fact that I have great onboard sound. :D I wish DFI would do that, actually..
