well i got some more time on my hands and came up with this, it's probably as high im gonna go 24/7 with voltage, might be able to squeeze a few more Mhz out of it though.

:D
well if you do go and get a vapochill you would have to modify it to handle a quad, :) it's acually better to have somone build a custom phasechange system, unless you pick up a used one crazy cheap. now it's time to try to push it some more :p

the only thing your crazy computer is lacking is a decent vid card, otherwise i am very jealous. why are you only running a 7800GT and not something better?

4.4 Ghz seems disapointing for Phase change.. Expecting least 5 Ghz ish on Phase..

i was playing the waiting game, at first i was waiting for the killer 2900XT. well that didn't really happen :(

and now i´ve been waiting for the 3870x2 but that doesn't seem to be that extreme to, but i think im gonna go ahead and buy one anyway. It´l be tons better than what im having now

getting a qx9650 prime stable at 5ghz is pretty much an imposible task, atleast if you don´t wanna kill it very quickly. this chip does around 5.8 Ghz on ln2 but that's not stable in prime and with maybe around 1.85V :p and ln2 is't really a good way to cool your computer 24/7,

I can go higher but there has been a couple of people killing their qx9650 with voltage over 1.55 for a long period of time. and i don't really feel like killing my $1200chip, even if i could get another this one is handpicked with a coldbug at around -145*C which is really nice.

I´ve taken it up to 5077Mhz on this phasechange setup and that's pretty good since a vapochill lightspeed has such a small compressor and originally really can't hold even 230W of heat without overheating and shutting down.

could be, or it´s my old p965 board holding be back, or it´s not a bad overclocker att all.

just curiouse where have you seen the other better overclocking samples? prime stable offcourse.:)

Well I don't really have time to make sure all of them are prime 95 stable, but here are a few.
4.67 Ghz: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3184

4.25 Ghz: http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/qx9650_penryn_review/18.html

5 Ghz +: http://www.nordichardware.com/Articles/?skrivelse=519&page=6

4.32 Ghz: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTQxMSwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==

Sure there are more, but a quick google search pulled those up, only looked at first page..

q6600 G0 @ 3.6 1.25v(set to 1.325 in bios reads 1.25 in both bios and windows) 1.2 is the VID @ default.

14200 in 2k6 just did it will post pics lata :p

yeah those are some nice results no question but if we do a closer look on them, starting with anandtech.

The first thing we notice is how full load power consumption quickly increases to almost uncontrollable levels when pushing above ~4.25GHz. In fact, we found achieving true stability any higher nearly impossible with water-cooling alone."

4.25GHz - had to work for it:

Vcore at 1.575V (Dangerous without really good cooling)"
here i do 4.4Ghz at lower voltages (1.56V)

nordichardware:
well they do use LN2 and they are benching 3dmark, superpi and such. nothing of that comes even close to running 4hours of prime. i can run 3d stable much higher then primestable." It ran past 5 GHz and when it reached 5.45 GHz at -150 °C and around 2.0 V we were quite pleased with what we had accomplished the first day."
and they are running at -150*C 2.0V vcore!

hardocp: this is probably the best one out of your examples. running on water it does

Playing around some more after we had a few hours of loaded stability at 4GHz, I was able to push the QX9650 to 4.32GHz using a 1.55v vCore " oh and they are running water btw.

and i do 4.4Ghz at fairly the same voltages (1.56) i can acually do 4.3 on 1.496V gonna check how much that i need for 4.32 when i get the time.

what do i want to acomplish with this? i just want to show you that my cpu really aint such a bad overclocker. taking it up to 5Ghz on my cooling is really easy, but making it prime stable for hours, pretty much impossible.

Q6600 @ 3.4 with 1.32vcore, currently.

Temps on two of the cores run at 59C under load, the other two run at 50C... I'll work on that :p

I'm impressed with the chip thus far; it's my first Intel proc since the PIII days.

Charlie

I have 2 QX6800's and could get 3.6Ghz stable since I have stock cooling on both. Both of em could go 4.0Ghz but it'd get way too hot when running orthos.

STOCK COOLING? Go for something else man! I'm sure you can clock to 4.5 if you have a good wc setup.

most of your load temps at higher clocks are my idle temps at a lower clock!

i went through two TRUE120, tried open case, tried different case...and its still high.

my only conclusion is bad CPU? or new thermal paste? (using as5 now).

can i have a bad CPU? if i push it more than 3.0 it reaches like 50c idle!

can my CPU be bad?

ya brisk...similar issue here.

qx6700, evga 680i, p32 bios. all defaults ( auto ) atm...I even lapped the HS ( zalman 9700 ) and the IHS today. got to a nice flat surface. tiniest bit of as4, thin line, as the as site suggests

idle ( from speedfan..with the +15 added to the config )

cpu = 39c
core 0 = 49
core 1 = 48
core 2 = 44
core 3 = 44

is that cpu ( 39 ) is that reasonable? and not to worry too much about the separate core temps?

Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz at stock voltage. Serious performance boost their if I say so myself:)

I run the system in my sig 24/7 at 4Ghz with 1.4v. I believe I can get a little lower vcore, but haven't had the chance to really fine tune it.

Q6600 @ 3300Mhz Thermaltake TiG2 Heatsink and fan at 1.3 Volts
I can boot into windows all the way upto 3500Mhz but it is not Prime stable, Core 3 fails all the time no matter how many volts or how cold im running.

how high have you gone on the vcore and how cold have you been running? subzero phasechange?

I'm still messing with BIOS Settings and I need to get a new heatsink (still using stocker), but i'm currently at 3Ghz (333x9 G0 Stepping) @ 1.38vCore.

Pretty decent, but i'm sure once this cpu is burnt in and once I get a "real" heatsink it will clock higher.

dang, temps were a bit too warm at 3.6, had to drop it back down to 3.2 For now that is until i get my new 120's for my case ;)
