Quad or C2D for G33 Based Shuttle?

I've been doing some preliminary research on setting up a sff. it's main purpose is to be a media center, but it'd be the only pc i have at home, so it might be asked to do some video editing, photoshop, or gaming on rare occasion.

for price reasons, i was looking at getting a C2D E6550 (2.33GHz, 4MB, 1333), sold on Newegg for 169.99. but Fry's has a crazy deal on the Quad Core Q6600's for 179.99 which is awfully tempting.

1) is the quad core too hot/noisy/power-consuming?

2) i'm in no rush, just want to build a computer by june. should i wait?

i plan on waiting on a videocard (but would like the option open), and putting in a TV Tuner.
 
A quad-core Q6600 shouldn't be too hot unless you're doing overclocking. Even on its standard heatsink, it should perform fine in a SFF case. It's only when you start "pushing the envelope" that you get into problems.

You're seeing cheap prices on the Q6600 because it's being superseded. The new part is the Q9300, which runs a little faster and a little cooler. So it's your choice... but beware waiting; the cheap deals on the Q6600 won't be here forever, as they sell out the remaining stock!
