My Matrox dual head card came, now upping my maximum monitor number to four! So I saw an extra CRT in the corner, and said "Why not?"

Could you kindly explain to me how having 4 monitors, especially 4 different ones is useful? Not trying to insult you or anything.
 
It's great for web design. Photoshop on one monitor. Notepad on another. Internet page on another monitor. Flash on another monitor.

It's also great for general multitasking. Right now I've got my playlist on one monitor, FireFox on another. AIM on another monitor, and bitorrent downloads on another.
 
O, well seems a little overkill to me, but if it works for you then more power to you.
 
I was at a conference earlier this week and the Matrox rep was sporting dual quad parhelia cards with 8 17" LCD's running some demos. It was pretty damn sweet. In this case the purpose of the setup was running mapping and analysis software.

You've obviously not done any web design/coding. It pretty much comes down to having as much desktop space as possible. I know when I had dual monitors both programming and web design were much easier (except I kept alt+tabbing only to realize the window was on the next screen :p)
 
Agreed. I wish i had a second monitor, it would make life alot easyer. Photoshop on one screen and flash or dreamweaver on the other.
 
i can agree with the web design part. more desk space is better. last year i took a multimedia class (i'm still in hs) and they only ran all their monitors (lcd's) in 800x600, so every class i would change the thing to 1024x768 just so i could see more. gonna get a dual monitor for my use while in a programming class at my vo-tech next year, start networking also.

Man, got me beat. I've got triple monitors (One 17" Samsung 712n lcd, one 19" CRT and one 17" crt). Quad would be nice to have for the very rare occasion that three isn't enough :p
 
Two displays with high resolutions (at least 1280x1024) are the optimal.
After that, the taskbar is your friend. :)

It is very unusual to look at more than 2 screens at any given time; if it is even possible.

That said, I want a third screen. :D

Just waiting till december to get two new matching LCDs, then I will dump my current LCD.
So, that will be 2 LCDs and a CRT. Yeah, that will be nice.
 
yeah, two displays, coupled with *good* virtual desktop support will cover just about any one-person task.

With two large lcd panels, I find it quicker to use virtual desktops than to hook up a third display. Easier on my neck too, lol.
 
you should put the quad in a 2x2 matrix instead of in a row =P

anyways, all I would need/want is dual montiors running at 1600x1200. I almost got that going...I'm at dual 1600x1024 =\
 
too bad your monitors/lcds arent the same make (or at least on the same level).
other than that, kick ass =P

i should consider a radeon PCI card for my gaming >.<;; parhelia doesnt cut it T,T

Man you have it easy. I had nightmareish problem of getting 5 video cards to work without conflicts then found out the psu wasn't up to the task of handling the power load.

After seeing that It's giving me the itch to beat my old 5 monitor record and get 6 up and running :D
 
I have a three monitor setup ( http://www.stevequalls.com/pc.htm ) and have found that I can't do without them when running Dreamweaver, Photoshop, FTP Client, and Local Network Browser, and other programs at the same time. My advice to anyone who uses one monitor is to get two. Buy a $60 pci videocard and another monitor exactly like the one you have... It is really an eye opening experience.
 
I also have a multi-monitor setup (well, 2 1801fps anyway). I could use another to be honest. I do web design, heavy encoding/decoding, gaming, etc. Even with dual LCDs I still ALT+TAB too much.
