I make my living water cooling, controling steam, chillers, beating the hell out of water and its hydronic subsystems.
Got my ass blown away today. I have not been happy with the over all results of my current WC project. yeah it looks ok,,,, yeah the temps are better than air,,,, yeah its cool. But the fact remains, my math says I'm about 7 to 10c off my mark.
So I take it down today. My goal is to clean up the block and work on lapping it some more. I don't care who you are,, bowing a block to lie on a driveway like a log is stupid. I flush out the rad. And sure enough it full of the so called water soluable flux. So I viniger it out.... Flush it with tap water for over a hour... Then run a half gallon of distilled water through it. Then I get the bright ideal to blow the rad out with 20 psi air off my compressor. Well I be dammed if some of the so called flux does not make a plug on two pass's on one side of the rad. It made bang and ble crap out of the other open port. The pop was two of the passage's flaring like the x-wifes lip's.
So my old quad is down. And with it the two old gtx-260's. My wife understands how important folding is to me. and wants to help get the rig back up. And is amazed at how the rad let go.
I work for a ITT B&G rep. and there is no way the laing pump I'm running will do 2/3 of what they claim on there curves. If they did,,, my pump would have shelled the gtx-480 rad. if not because of psi,,, velosity would have got it.

. I'm not a big fan of putting additives into a loop; I think the best way to go would be to use one of those silver things that goes into the tubing and kills any organisms floating around (I don't remember what they're called), and just use plain distilled water. In any case, I hope you can get everything back up and running. If you're feeling up to it, you can always go back to air cooling until you get the rad replaced.
