Quad core work with XP?

Just want to confirm this actually works. A bit of googling shows it *should* work... but just want to confirm XP pro does not just say "yep, I'm running on 2 of 4 cores" or something goofy like that. A quad core == 1CPU, from Windows licensing perspective, and 4 cores from actual usage -- right?
 
I built myself a new quad-core machine last weekend, it works just fine. The original XP license was actually a 1-2 CPU machine but somewhere early in the hyperthreading era they changed it to allow for two HT CPU's and didn't mess with it so four cores works fine.

The memory thing is what is getting me. My theory is when you get around to buying OVERBUY and then don't have to upgrade every year or so. I bought 4gb of RAM but it shows up in XP as 3.5.

Strange thing is I've had servers at work since NT 4 that all recognized 4gb, Win2K did as well. As soon as we hit Server 2003 the new servers would only work with 3.5. Same with XP. Oh well I guess you have to buy them in pairs anyways.

My new semi-monster rig:

Intel Core Duo Quad Q6600, ASUS P5NE-SLI, Winfast 8800 GTS, Soundblaster X-FI, 4gb Crucial DDR-4200, 2X WD 400 GB 7200 SATA-2 (in RAID-1, I'm a woos when it comes to data), Lian-Li 1100B As a general rule it spends a lot more time waiting on me than I do on it. ;)
 
XP home is good for 1 processor. Microsoft defines processor by package / socket. So if you have a single socket CPU, it doesn't matter if its single, dual, quad or octo core... as long as its ONE PACKAGE/ socket.

XP Pro is good for up to 2 processors. Which again by their terms = 2 sockets.

Cores / hyperthreading doesn't matter to them. B/c they understand by Moore's law the # of execution cores will continue to go up on a single package.

But the professional workstations/servers will still always be in a different class with 2+ sockets, so it might have up to 16+ cores (2x4, 2x8, 4x4,etc)!
 
Then it should support Yorkfield that should have total 8 cores. My QX6700 runs great on my Xp pro, I use CPU affinity to mange core usage of different apps. :p
