anyone here have the q8400 processor. I have a dualcore 6400 in my second pc. I was thinking about putting in a q8400 if I could see good performance increase. I use this pc for the web , a little gaming sometime . Do you think it would be worth the money 170 usd. or just put in a q 9550. I didnt want to spend to much because I will go i920 before the year is out with my main rig.:D

The Q9400 can normally be found for $179 if you look around. If you're going i7 920 before the year's over though (less than 7 months) I would skip this.

Since you're planning to go with an i7 this year, there is no point in spending money to get a quad now. Your dual-core E6400 will easily last you until you upgrade.

Agreed. Might as well just stick it out for another few months, since once the i7 rig is built, the Q8400 won't be particularly useful to you any more.

The i7 comments withstanding, I just upgraded from E6600 to Q8400 as I decided my desktop had another 2 years of life in it (a 775). Bought @ $169 from Newegg, overclocked to 3.4 w/ no voltage increases needed. Good value, if you only want a cpu upgrade to extend system life.
