Qpack and additional fanhole

on the qpack, is it possible to make an 80mm fan hole on the window on the left side? I know that the window is plastic and not plexi, but i would love to put a fan on there to blow on the video card.
 
I've done it on numerous Q-packs. If you use a hole saw, I put mine on reverse so it doesn't bite and you have to dril the hole slowly, taking breaks, so you don't start melting the plastic.

The way the cheapy plastic window on the Qpack is mounted makes it pretty easy to replace it with a little more durable panel. You can get the Lexan from Home Depot for $10-$12 or so and cut it to match the size. The stock window is mounted with the little push-pins (which I am looking for more of...) and if you push the center of the pin out the whole window comes out very easily. I've seen a lot of debates/comments here on how to cut the stuff - I had really good luck with a sliding compund miter saw, and then used a coping saw for the corners. I drilled matching holes with a drillpress, but a hand drill would do the job.

A little more durable panel makes mounting a fan a little sturdier, but even so, consider this fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835118212
It is a slim profile (15mm) fan and really seems like a nice one. It comes with a little pigtail from Zalman to down-volt it without having to swap molex plugs out. Either way it really is a quiet fan and the "slimness" of it would keep from overpowering the window.

I am now thinking about putting this fan in this way thanks to your post.

thanks for the advice maybe i will replace the windows with plexi, and about the fan, I have a vantec tornado waiting :)
 
I actually don't have any picures of the round ones. I've cut squarish ones recently, since the holes border the frame, but I used a hacksaw for the straight edges, and then a dremel for the corners.

Here's a 120mm hole I cut. The 80mm on the other side is cut similarly, just smaller.
 
Hole saw will work fine. I did mine with a hand drill, but if you have a press, it should be even easier.
 
I got a 92mm in mine. It wasn't that hard..I actually mounted the fan to the bar that goes across the qpack and that holds up the fan...works nicely and you can lift the cover without having to disconnect the fan.

Do you happen to have the measurements offhand, and will Home Depot cut the lexan to spec for you?
