I've been waiting on the Q9550 and X48 boards to arrive to finish up my new rig. I've built a few PCs before, but I haven't done any over clocking so I am a bit green in this area. This will be my first attempt and I would like to avoid any issues by learning as much as I can before I buy. From what I have read here on the [H] forums is that the Q9550 has a relatively low multiplier (8.5), which in turn requires a higher FSB value to get a decent over clock.
The review for the ASUS P5E3 Premium said that a 500Mhz FSB was achievable with water cooling, but obviously this will be lower on an air cooled system. What do you think a typical X48 board will be able to reach on air? To further complicate the issue, I'd like to have 4GB of DDR3 (I don't upgrade very much, so my budget is flexible). I'd like to purchase four sticks of the OCZ PC-10666 Platinum Edition, but I'm not entirely sure about all of the FSB\DRAM ratio settings. I've read that the quad processors are notoriously bad over clockers when paired with four sticks of memory. Will I run into insurmountable problems with this particular configuration?
