Q9550, prices coming down soon?

Im in the market, wondering if prices will drop soon or just buy the damn thing?

I did the frys combo for $249 a month back for my brother at Christmas, however latest intel paperwork shows pricing has not changed for this new Quarter.

It was a two day deal back in November right before turkey day, and it hasn't happened again since.

Just get one, I don't see the prices going down that much more, they will probably stay where they are until they are phased out, unless you come across a sale etc. If you are waiting around for them to drop below 100 or 200 bucks your wasting your time.

Be nice if the Phenom IIs would be competitive enough to drive the price down - I'd like to get one also, but $300+ seems like a rip off when you can find i7 920s for $260ish.

Maybe, but if you already have a mobo for it then you probably have RAM as well (as he does), so you are just looking at the 300, wile with the i7 you need everything, mobo and RAM, which are the steep parts in an i7 system, and you end up scratching 600 pretty easy.

Wow that is a good price. I guess it sucks for people who dont have a frys by their home. Lucky for me i do .

You should be able to find one on ebay for less than that. When I got mine on Black Friday for around $285, you could get the CPU + a very low end Intel mobo.

BTW, on that day with the help of live.com, I got a Q9550 + 6GB of quality DDR2 memory + an Asus P5Q pro + an Antec 650 80 plus ps all for less than $500 (actually closer to $400 when microsoft sends me the cash).

Very true, but is an upgrade from a Q6600 to a Q9550 even worth it? At least with an i7 you get the new tech, albeit at a steeper price.

If I had a Q6600...No. I would rather OC the Q6600 and save the money for when the i7's come down in price, along with everything else and jump on then.
