Q9550 from AMD Phenom II X4 820

Hello,
I recently upgraded from my Q9550 to an I5 3570K. A friend has the AMD chip and is thinking of buying my Q9550 plus motherboard. Would that be much of an upgrade for him? His PC is mainly for browsing and games. He's going to buy my gtx580. I'm thinking just upgrading the graphics card would be ok for him. thanks.

According to this chart (http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/82?vs=50), I would say that your friend may get a slight framerate boost from upgrading.

TBH, I would respectfully tell him to save his money for an i5 2500k or an ivy bridge cpu.

Thanks, I'm going to tell him to just try the video card and save up for a microcenter cpu/motherboard deal.

Depends on what you would charge him. Q9550 is a nice chip. I still have one that will hit 4.0 easily. I'd rather have that than anything AMD has.

My advice is to eBay your q9550 etc, tell him to get a new CPU/MB since he's going to have to fresh install windows anyway.
