By the looks of it the first people to be getting Q9450's will be the OEM buyers. From the looks of it Intel allocated the first batch of its stock to more OEM quantities than they did Boxed boards...

I really hope intel picks up the slack because this is pretty disappointing. Im sure the rest of you will agree.:(

Disappointing maybe... Surprising, hardly. OEM's always get first dibs. That's where the money's at.

But dont they make more money per chip if they sell Retail?

Probably, but the amount of people who buy a retail box to build their own PC pales in comparison to the amount of people who by a Dell, HP, Compaq, Sony, eMachines, Gateway, etc etc

that's how AMD's 3core Phenoms are shipping too; initial shipments to OEM marketers/computer retailers, with eventual shipments to mainstream (us).

I'm not in the market for one of these, but like Ramon (GTP Supercharged 3.8?) said, that's how things roll

Yep, that use to be my car, sold it a couple years ago.

Sorry what do you mean by OEM buyers? OEM buyers as in Dell, HP etc, or OEM buyers like me who bought an oem q9450 vs retail.

TankGuys first run are all OEM units. They have no eta on retail (last I checked). Sounds to me like the first run of 9450's is late to the party- no packaging OEM units.
It's not like HP is going to be selling my company DC5x00's with quads in them. We're not even buying duals yet.

I just want it released already!!!

I sure hope it plays well with my Abit IP35-E, this board does 487mhz fsb on my E6550, if the Q9450 overclocks just as well, I'll be satisfied (well until Nahalem)

Ok, for those of us who have not been reading every thread and post on the release date of the 9450, what exactly does this mean? Has the release date been pushed back? If so, till when?

Thanks

It just means the big boys will get them first, which is always the case for a new product so this really isn't "news"

This means that the majority of Boxed chips will be shipped next week instead of this week :(

They are allocating most of it to trays and then leaving a very little bit to retail.

This was the chip I wanted to get but I think I might go for an E8400 first, if they're even available.

Just preordered my Q9450 from shopblt.... their site said more stock coming on the 24th in IL. Good luck to me!

I place my order at buy.com. I call them to see if they have an idea of when it will be in stock. They said they don't really know or have an exact date. But they said maybe a week from now. BTW I order the OEM.
What I also try is contacting intel via email to see if they have the answer. Asking when the q9450 Yorkfield will be available or ship. well this is what they said.

Dear ------

Intel® is working hard to meet the current demand for the Intel Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9450. While Intel is unable to predict exactly when this availability issue will be fully resolved, every effort is being put forth to do so. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused.

No answer real answer as well. :(

That sucks, i hope you get yours soon!

This is correct - OEM chips look to hit the channel first, and even then, likely in limited quantities for a while.

We've got a batch on the way from Malaysia right now, due to arrive 3/24 apparently. Beyond that, we don't have any other shipments yet on the horizon, and retail boxed units still look a bit away.

You guys dont have any shipments coming in this week? Not even OEMs?

Hey TankGuys, keep up the great work! Any first shipment spots left for an OEM Q9450? I'll order one right now if so :)
