Hi, I'm kinda new to the enthusiast realm so I've got a couple questions about the temp readings on my Q9450.

Those are the idle temps as taken through realtemp. While I'm not overly concerned about cores 1-3 I am concerned about core 0 being over 10c hotter than the rest. Looking around this and a few other enthusiast forums I've yet to see anything like this. Is the temp sensor just broken or is something wrong?

I haven't really stressed the system yet but, after about 12 hours of rendering on all 4 cores they rise to about 35c with core 0 being around 48c. To add to this, speedfan is reading my system temp as 100c at nearly all times. Nothing in my case feels that hot. Another broken sensor or a real problem?

Just wanting to make sure this won't cause any problems in the future.

I know this is a processor related forum but, to avoid making too many threads, I've got a 9800gtx in the same box. When I first got the card it idled at around 38c with the fan at 100%. As of two weeks ago that temp has suddenly jumped to 45c at the same fan speed. I blew the card out to make sure there wasn't any dust and that didn't help any. Any ideas what could've caused this?

Complete setup:

Mobo: Evga 750i ftw
Proc: Intel Q9450 (stock) cooled by a Zalman 9700
GPU: Evga 9800gtx KO (stock)
Memory: 4gb OCZ Reaper
HDD: 2x WD 500gb (raid 0) + 1x WD 160gb
Case: Cooler Master CM690

Have you tried the test sensors to see if any of your sensors are stuck? Im betting core 0 is stuck.
 
I have the same problem.. new Q9450 .. same thing.. one core is 11 degrees warmer than the others.. although my idle temps are much higher than yours.. and thats with a TRUE cooler :mad:

under load i max at 53 degrees C .. and idle about mid 30's
 
It looks like core0 is likely stuck at 39C. Stuck sensors at lower temperatures are very common with 45nm chips but they'll work fine once the core temperatures go higher. Try doing the RealTemp calibration as outlined in the documentation. You should be able to get those other three cores lined up at idle.

Any ideas about the gpu temps? (or should I just make another thread?)
 
VGA .. probably ambient temperatures.. case temperatues etc.. nothing to be too concerned about
 
There is an e-mail address in the RealTemp About window. The best test to do is to turn on the logging feature and set it to 1 second and set it to CSV file type. Run your computer idle for a minute and then run Prime95 small FFTs for about 2 minutes and then return your computer to idle for a minute or so. Send me the log file so I can have a look at it.

Nothing serious but having some more data to look at will make it easier to see what your sensors are doing and where they might be getting stuck.
 
Thanks for the data. To start with, CPU-Z / Intel, etc. label the cores from core0 to core3 on a Quad so when I mention this you'll know what I'm talking about. SpeedFan reporting a sensor at 100C is not unusual. It's hard to accurately report every possible sensor on the 101 million different motherboards available these days.

I believe that core2 and core3 are both stuck at 28 and physically can't report a number lower than that. To test for this, open your computer case, turn up the CPU fan if it's adjustable and try to run your computer at low MHz and as low a core voltage as you can. The goal is to run your computer as cool as possible to try to find out if either of these two cores can go lower than 28. I don't think they can.

When you are doing this test, let me know what temps you see and what your room temperature near your computer is. We need to compare these two temps to come up with some calibration factors for you to try.

Core0 and core1 look like they are OK. Core0 is likely reporting too high and core1 too low. This happens but once you know by how much then you'll be able to use RealTemp and hopefully correct for this so they are a lot closer together.

These sensors aren't designed or calibrated by Intel to accurately report idle temperatures but hopefully with some calibration they'll be a lot more usable for you.
 
Sorry for the delay. Couldn't seem to lower the voltage much but I did some. I'm fairly certain sensors 3-4 are stuck. I don't have a totally accurate thermometer to record room temps but the one I used was about 77° when I tested. The other two sensors went down a couple degrees. (like 1-2)

If needed, I'll try to get some more detailed info up in the next day or so.
 
U-238: I've been a little side tracked this weekend getting RealTemp 2.73 ready. Head to Google and you should be able to find it.

It looked like your last two cores were stuck. If the other two are moving, even a little bit then they can be improved with some calibration. I'll check back again and let you know some more tests you can try and what calibration factors might be usable for you.
