I took the splurge and did my first overclock. I'm running an Intel Q9450 on a EVGA 750i FTW board. I managed to get to 3.2ghz out of it but what concerns me is that I have the voltage set on "Auto" and it's telling me it's running at 1.3v which is high compared to some of the similar overclocks I've seen around here. The thing's running cool but I'm still concerned about it. Anything over 3.2 is unstable. (I only adjusted the voltage to 1.35v)

Is there anything I might be able to do to help with this high voltage or am I over reacting?

You're running "auto" voltages which probably means everything else is bios auto/default, which probably means you'll get nowhere with overclocking unless you adjust things manually (cpu voltage is just 1 parameter). Which also means you should take some time and educate yourself a lil tiny bit on your bios options, what they do, what you should do, what stuff to tweak, etc. 1.35 isn't high, more like.. typical.

Mind sharing what to look/watch out for? I'm running memory at factory settings had have managed to get the voltage down to 1.25 fsb (still working on the core voltage) at 3.2. I'm fairly well read on this mobo (made sure I did this before overclocking).

3.3 will start, boot and run fine for most tasks but, as soon as I start p95, the whole system locks up.

*Shrugs* not familiar with your motherboard but generally.. set vdimm to 2.1, NB to something higher than stock, vcore to that 1.35, ram divider to 1:1, 333/667, 400/800. I don't know what your options are so that's just a general idea. If you post a pic of your bios options or a reference to it then it'll be easier to help.

I disabled auto voltage asap however I still cannot manage over 3.2. The thing instantly freezes when starting P95. I've gone all the way up to these settings so far.

VCore: 1.4
FSB: 1.35
Memory: 2.1
NF200 (northbridge) 1.40
Nforce SPP (southbridge) 1.2

It will still not run stable over 3.2. I'm really apprehensive about upping the voltage any more on this thing.

****I have not tested these settings****

But I did run across a thread a while ago where a guy posted many of his settings, so take a look if you will

Thanks for the advice. So far I've managed to get it to 2.9 stable on stock voltage. Going to shoot for 3.0 tomorrow. If it sticks at 3.0 stable on stock but won't stick 3.3 with 1.4 core voltage and 1.35 fsb flowing through it I'll be seriously confused. :S
