Hello,

The other day I finally finished my first build. The feeling that I gat when I pressed that power button and heard the post beep and then the screen came to life that was priceless! :D

Yesterday I spend the entire day trying to fix my core temps. Apparently cores 2-3 are about 13c higher then cores 1-2. I have a lapped HS (Ultima 90); I tried reseating it 3 times with no luck. I then tried the stock Intel fan, the difference was still the same. I finally grew inpatient and decided to lap the IHS of the CPU, but that didn’t help ether… The specs are in my sig & here are my final, idle temps.

RealTemp 2.5
Core 1-2 = 25c
Core 3-4 = 37c

CoreTemp 0.98.1
Core 1-2 = 34c
Core 3-4 = 47c

What program should I trust more RealTemp or CoreTemp? What cores do u think are giving the correct temperatures? 1-2? or 3-4? I assume the problem is with the faulty heat sensor; obviously now that I lapped the HIS I cant RMA the thing. What do u guys suggest I do to fix this?

Thanks

believe coretemp, always core 3 and 4 will eb hotter than core 1 and 2 due to it being on the bottom and the other two on the top, 13c higher could be what it has

my gap from core12 to core23 is around 4c in this hot weather in the uk im idling around the 40s 35s

I have this same issue with my E8500 and I have been unable to fix it even by re-applying thermal paste and reseating my heatsink. I'm just afraid that the core with the higher temp will eventually burn out faster than the other core :(

actually for the new 45nm processors coretemp shows wrong temps, usually 10C higher, real temp reports correct temps.
As for the huge diff between the dies, if your cpu is flat, your heatsink is flat and you applied thermal grease correctly there is not much else you can do. You could try removing the ihs but i saw bunch of reports of people braking the cpu doing that.

What are your temps under full Prime95/OCCT stress? If the Trise is about the same, I wouldn't worry too much. Some pseudo-stuck temp diodes have been reported on the 45nm chips, but as long as the track with one another under load, it's okay.

Getting that on my X3350 too. One die is 10C higher then the other.

DO NOT try to remove the IHS on P4 and newer CPUs. It is soldered to the die itself. You /will/ break the chip.

I use Real temp 2.5

core temperature 40/38/36/38

Miniumum temp 40/37/36/37

Maximum temp 40/39/39/37

When I use Core temp they are 10c more than real temp
