I am not 100% sure this is a CPU problem, but my cousin bought a new computer and built it himself, and well whenever the thing goes under some type of load it freezes right up. At first I thought it was a mobo problem, but looking deeper into it I am pretty sure its a problem with the processor. When I load CPUID Hardware Monitor just sitting here typing this post he has Idle temps on the core as follows: 61, 56, 58, 56. I would try to take a print screen but well he also is using a apple pro keyboard and I don't know the print screen button or how to do it else wise.

I have already taken the heatsink off and applied Arctic Silver 5 to it. And I thought one of the problems was that when I touched the heatsink it feel off. So I cleaned it up applied AS5 and then got it connected tight.

Anyone got any ideas? Could it be he just got a bad processor? I will also look into getting a screen shot of hardware monitor here in the morning.
 
Wait... you touched the heatsink and it fell off? If it fell off just like that, yah you've got a problem.

Thank you I know that, I fixed that problem, But I am still having heating problems.......
 
You may not be having 'heating problems' at all. Your 'hardware monitor' program may be reading the temps completely wrong - it happens a lot with the new 45nm processors.

Download 'RealTemp' and run it and see what it tells you. (Google for a download link)


It could also be that the processor was damaged the first time around because of the fact that the heatsink/fan wasn't installed properly, although generally modern day intel processors will just throttle down and/or halt if the heatsink comes off and the processor begins to overheat - it's a safety measure to protect against burning out the processor.
 
Well Real Temp is giving me core temps of 46, 43, 41, 42 and that still seems a little to high. It is actually running at 2GHz according to Real Temp. I know the likely hook of it being a bad processor is bad, but could the mobo be screwed up?? Its an EVGA 123-CK-NF79-A1

What are load temps?
