This is on idle... something seems very wrong to me. I have a P5E and I'm using the 607 bios. I know there's a new 702 bios, but I don't know if it would make a difference.
 
How much thermal paste do you have on there? Stock heat sink? ... Did you make sure the heat sink was seated good?
 
IFX-14... pretty sure it's seated properly. Is it possible to use to much thermal paste? Who knows... perhaps I put a bit too much on the cpu.
 
What program are you using to monitor the temps?
The only that I really trust is Realtemp, try it if you didn't.

A lot of people use too much paste. It's easy to do, and it does harm temps when application is overdone. It's probably worth cleaning off the CPU and HS and starting the process over again. If you're not sure how much to use, the Arctic silver website has tutorials with photos and all which you can use to get perspective.
 
I was using Coretemp when I got those temps.

With realtemp and an overclock of 3.3ghz with 1.3v, this is what realtemp shows:

core 1: 47
core 2: 39
core 3: 45
core 4: 46

Those are idle temps.
 
Stick with RealTemp ... are you on stock heatsink or watercooled?
Seems a high for idle
 
Q9450 at 3.4ghz - 425x8 on 1:1 with a p5e and a IFX-14 cooler.

Core 1: 45
Core 2: 36
Core 3: 44
Core 4: 46

This is with Realtemp with the cpu on Idle. I think these temps are still too high even for a 3.4ghz overclock. They should all be around 35ish. I'm going to reseat the heatsink when I get home as well as reapply some thermal paste.
 
that doeesn't seem so bad. My q9300 at 3.0 idles at 39 39 42 41 with a Xigmatech 1283.

Should be..... yea right. Use this a guideline. Main thing is stability. Not sure why everyone is so obsessed with low temps. We all know 45nm chips have bugged temp sensors.
 
In bios my temps seem to be much lower than what Real temp shows. Even after raising the cpu from 3.4ghz to 3.6ghz there's difference in temps at all.

In fact, my temps at 2.66ghz are the same as 3.4ghz. They don't seem to change at all, I think the sensor is wacked up.

I'm not keen on low temps, just as long as I can hit a nice overclock without overheating I'm good.

yep agree, main thing is stabilty .... look at it another way ... when stress testing for say 12 hours+ what are your temps when o/cing at 3.4 and 3.6 .....
I cant get stable beyond 3.3 at the moment and my temps hit 60 for the core0 and 50 for the rest of em.... when priming for over 20 hours .... my core 2 & 3 certainly have stuck sensors at 47 (wont go lower when idle).
