q8200 high idle temps... help

I just finished building a new pc with the intel q8200 and i've been getting idle temps at around 50 degrees across all four cores monitoring with coretemp. with the stock settings.

I am using the scythe ninja HSF with more than adequate airflow. i have tried reseating the heatsink sevaral times and have gotten the same results.

My motherboard is an asus p5k premium running 4 gb of crucial ballistix ram.

To me this seems way too high! my q6600 barely hits these temps on a full load. what's going on?
 
If left on AUTO in the bios, some motherboards use too much core voltage which can create unnecessary heat. Make sure CPU-z isn't reporting your core voltage too high.

Most likely though, your only problem is on chip temperature sensors that are far from perfect. Intel says that their 45nm sensors may become saturated and not provide any accurate temperature information below 50C. Users refer to this as a stuck sensor. No need to RMA or anything like that. These sensors simply aren't designed to accurately report low temperatures and Intel considers anything below 50C to be unimportant. Some people get lucky and can get accurate idle temps out of these sensors while many like yourself, can't.
