quadcore's stock cooler doesn't look that bad.

but should I go for a zalman 9700cu?

eh its not that great. I'm pretty much limited by heat with my Q6600 using the stock heatsink. Even just at 3Ghz it's at around max thermal spec under load.

zalman 9700 on its way........

Ugh, Zalman suck if your Q6600 is a rev B3. I'm still looking for the Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme and that's the one to go for from what I've researched on.

Or this for 98% of the performance but less wieght, and less bucks as well :)

Hmm, interesting. I'm still waiting for the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme but they are out of stock right now. Nowhere in Canada that I know have them in stock. How's the Thermalright ULTRA-90 stack up against the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme?

Ok, time for me to reseat my Zalman and put in less thermal compound and see the result.

What do you mean the stock temp doesn't look that bad? Can you tell me the temp of the 4 cores running of stock when idle and full load? I'm interested to know how it's stacking up against my Zalman.

Thanks

its not "bad"

but i can get a tuniq tower for $10 less that cools 10-20 or maybe 30 % better

Hi coolxboxgamer. Can you tell me what Tuniq Tower you have install and please tell me your idle and full load on your 4 cores running at 3.0GHz? You have the Q6600 rev B3 right? I'm still deciding what heatsink is the best for the buck.

Thanks

Did you look at the oveclocked load result??? at 3.83..the zalman is 58 and the ultra and tuniq is 50. that's a BIG difference. Also..the zalman's overclock stop at 3.83 while the ultra goes up to 3.96. that's a 130mhz extra overclock. looking at it this way, the zalman does suck because it costs the same as the ultra.

thermalrights nowhere to be found in Canada....... damn it.....

zalman is gonna win.. :)

I say use the stock heartsink that came with the Q6600 right now until the Thermalright are back instock again. Hopefully soon. The Zalman is overpriced crap. It's only good for Duo 2 Core and NOT QUAD.

Its funny if it is not 100% the best in every situation it just sucks, what an outlook on life.

You will be more then happy with the Zalman 9700. And I gurantee 100% if you had the two machines side by side runnings apps and games you could not tell the differance.

Only way to tell the differance is to run numbers. If that is your goal then by all means go for the Thermalright.

I like the Tuniq Tower. It's pretty good and comes with a 120mm fan.

I like the Anandtech charts but they are only loading one core and not both cores on that X6800. 4 cores fully loaded with Prime creates a lot of heat so spend a little extra now rather than have to buy something else next month.

Memory Express in Calgary, AB has the Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme in stock. Kind of pricey but if you want the best then there it is.

I must confess the Zalman 9700 is nicer.

The Thermalright 120 is bizarre and doesn't come with a fan... why?
