Alright I have the specs In my sig, and I just set up my new rig. I have been able to OC the CPU all the way to 2.8. After that it reverts back to stock settings, or will just crash. Its cooler is the Thermal Take Blue Orb II and its idle temp is 39 and load is 43. I am baffled at why I can't go any higher...

Wattage to CPU: 1.4

EDIT: I tinkered with setting after setting and I finally got it to 3.0! :D
 
You may want to post a few more specifics.

Like, did you update your mobo bios to the latest? How are you getting your CPU temps? What settings did you change to bump your speed to 3? Did you adjust the CPU voltage? What is the stepping of your CPU? I'm sure there are a bunch more questions, but I am just getting back into clocking after some time off.

From what a have read, just barely getting to 3 with a Q6600 sounds a little on the weak side, but it is possible you got that slightly wimpier chip that still managed to pass all the stock tests.

Could it be the memory? Although you got it to 3.0ghz =). Run some test to make sure it's a stable 3.0.

Try going the 5:4 ratio route. Your memory might not be able to handle 1:1
