I am now looking to get a WC system but for my Q6600 only at this time. I need a quiet PC as I currently have 5 fans running.

I was looking at Swiftech's H20-120 but their test shows that under 27c ambient temp, core speed at 3000mhz and vcore at 1.296, the temp would be around 60c. (20 cel higher than currently)
I am currently using the Tuniq Tower & my temps are 36 to 43 (core 4 to core 1).

So, which compact WC setup would be best for this set up?
I doubt I plan on watercooling my 8800gt when I get one.
For now, I just want to quiet my machine & maybe lower the temps some more.
 
The Swiftech kit is good for dual-cores but for quads, it's not much better than air so you should get a better kit like http://www.petrastechshop.com/pecoba.html

There are more kits on Petra's shop so just pick a good one based on your budget with my pick as the cheapest choice.

For Oced Quad core go with Swiftech H20-220 Compact instead of H20-120.
 
I looked into that one & checked their Swiftech CPU Temperature Calculator & with my settings of 27cel ambient, core speed of 3000mhz & volts at 1.296, the temps are still almost double what they are now.

I am of course, assuming the temp reading is at idle?
If so, that one is no good either.
Right now, my core temps are higher as it's a bit warmer in my room.
High 40s to 50 cel depending on which core according to core temp.
I need one that is good but affordable but at LEAST the same current temps (usually around 40) or lower.
I do realize I'll need to spend around $200 though.
 
Don't trust the calculator and get at least a kit with a 2x120mm radiator at least. This can dissipate up to 250-300w, enough for your Q6600 even at the most extreme overclocking since you cannot get below ambient and you are also limited by the cpu block efficiency.

A good kit include a Fuzion and a MCR220 or MCR320 for the best performance.

 
I have the *220* and it works phenomenal. The calculator is still based off B3 steppings and not G0, so disregard it if you are using a SLACR ;)

Look, I have the Q6600 G0 and have it OC'd to 3.1 GHz using 1.37VCore.

I use a Swiftech Apogee GTX block and a Nautilus 500 external kit.
My temps: idle 25-27 C
Full load of Orthos x 4: 43-47 C

If all you want to do is cool the CPU, consider the Nautilus. I changed the CPU block and the grand total was 210 dollars. It wont handle anything else but its a nice little system, easy to install and very quiet.....you cant even tell its running.

Just a thought.
I just added an 8800 GTX to the loop, so the Nautilus is out......but it did a great job with my CPU.

I got it in July which is why I got stuck with it. But I am happy with it's performance.

They both are the same except the first one has reservoir intergated. A radiator with intergated res only good if you install it external, right side up. You want to be esay to fill up the coolant.

magoo, I plan on changing mobos in a few months so I can get a higher OC out of the B3 as the current mobo won't do anything past 1400.
 
been keeping tabs on this post and thanks Xilikon for the product list. I just have a quick question I noticed the fittings on the various barbs range from 1/4 - 1/2 in size. How does this affect the tubing? Would you have to purchase separate barbs to make it all the same?
 
No, you may be confusing G1/4" and 1/2" terms. The first is the threading size (the part which screw in the block/radiator/reservoir) and the latter is the tubing inner diameter. You should be looking at the latter more than the former since the threading is pretty standardized across all components.

L.o.D., DirectCanada prices is the best but service is poor. I strongly suggest you order everything from NCIX but price match all of them to DC prices (I did myself and no problem, saving over 40$ myself). With NCIX, there is a excellent customer service and great RMA service.

I have ordered a few times from both sites but the only issue I had was poor communication from their warehouse to support.
NCIX & DC share the same warehouses across the board.
They are sister sites.

I know they are sister sites but you have the NCIX forum and good ticket system to help you while DC has no existent communication means and stupid RMA system (return something, they refund you and you are forced to rebuy, making you pay for both shipping costs while NCIX will exchange the item for another one then ship back to you at their cost).

Try to ask help about something bought at DC on NCIX and they will delete it. I know this and if you doubt this, just look at the forums under my nick and you will see I'm very active there as well.

 
I bought at NCIX a couple times and I din't have any problem, knock on wood. The shipping was fast, it was wihtin 3 business days. It has to be, because we're paying for it.

You need to provide the DC price and the link to the DC product page ( easy to pull since the SKU of both stores is virtually identical). Just make sure DC item is in stock since they won't price match items not in stock.

Repeat this process for every item then when you are done, press on the order button.

Ok, I have just placed the order for these parts, minus the D-Tek.
Came up to 169.21CAD.

Now, any ideas as to where I can get the water block you mentioned??
I have a feeling they may have stopped making them as even D-Tek themselves don't have any.

Any ideas??

Think I may have jumped the gun on this as I have NO clue as to when I'll be able to set it up.
 
Ok, I sent an email to the D-Tek guys asking them if they will have any more of those water blocks. Have yet to receive a reply.
In a worst case scenario, what is the next best thing to get??

I find it funny that other stores are getting in stock & yet the manufacturer can't.

Anyone know of any store American or Canadian that has the Fuzion actually in stock??

UPDATE: All went well & was shipped yesterday via USPS :(

Ok, I have a question about the rad. What do I use to connect the hoses to it?? All that came with it were different screws. Unlike the res which came with different sized threaded parts to connect the hose to the res.
So, what do I need?

Ok, I ordered those barbs but, needless to say, I need to ask a noobie question as to which way the fans blow. Into the rad or away?
I would assume into so it's sucking away from the case.

Also, would it be advisable to remove the rear exhaust fan as it's going to be blocked anyway?
 
I would setup the fans to suck through the radiator. The noise is considerably lower.

The res will be straight across from the rad in the rom drive cage to keep it high, pump straight below the res on the floor of the case.
 
RES>PUMP>RAD>BLOCK. Otherwise you are dumping heat from your pump to the block, Increasing your temps for no reason.

there is no way a small 12v pump will increase the temp in the line even worth noticing
