Just wondering what everyone's temp are with their q6600's. I want to make sure I applied the thermal paste correctly.

Please state what HSF your using and if you overclocked it or not and what program you are using to get your temps.



My temps as reported by speedfan are 31C idle at stock speeds with a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme (with scythe s-flex fan).

I heard that speedfan 4.32 reports this temp incorrectly and that we need to add 15C to it, is this correct?
 
Yes, Speedfan's temps for the CPU is 15 degrees too low, so your actual temperature is 46 (which isn't bad for idle).

I'm getting about 40 degrees (lowest core 37, highest core 40) right now on idle with my G0 (not overclocked... yet). Ambient case temperature is 36 degrees.

Under load on all four cores using Small FFTs, I get about 60 degrees (lowest core 58, highest core 60).

This is with a Scythe Ninja Plus (not lapped) inside a P182 case (with a Scythe S-Flew optional fan installed in the front and the Tri-cool fans set to Low).



What's interesting is that my system is using less electricity overall with this setup under load than my old Pentium D did under load. I do have a more efficient PSU now (new Silverstone 500W vs old Enermax 350W) but the difference is on the order of 40% less power.
 
Hey guys, need some help!

So i just ran orthos on my q6600 and within a minute, the core temps on speedfan were reaching 65C!!

That means it was running at 80C when you add in 15C for speedfan.



I added in a pretty thin layer of the thermal compound that came with the thermalright ultra-120 extreme. I spread it out using a cotton swab. There was both a thin layer on the CPU and heatsink base.

Should I reapply the paste by using a small rice grain and squeeze method?
 
Why do people keep saying Speedfan is 15c lower than it should be or something?

There are 2 different temp probes you know right? One is the diode for both cores and one is the digital core reading of each core. That's the temp most people go by.

My Speedfan temps read the same thing as Coretemp, RMclock, TAT, etc.

You should never use a cotton swab to spread out paste. All those fibers contaminating it.

If you want to spread it itself instead of letting the pressure and heat spread it, then use the edge of a credit card or your finger in a plastic bag or something.

I never liked the rice grain size method. I always use about 2 grain sizes on a single core. On a Dual Core and Quad core though, you supposed to do it differently. You have to use more than a grain size.

I'm running both RMClock and Speedfan? I'm looking at the INTEL CORE (4x of them) sensor and it's synchronized with RMClock except offset by 15. Easily adjusted in the Advance tab of Speedfan's configuration, but there you go.

Also, I used the "proper" method of applying AS5 (the line).
 
alrite thanks for the replys,

the reason i used cotton was because i heard it was ok to clean the cpu using cotton with alcohol therefore i assumed it would be fine using it to spread as well.


I will reapply the paste and see what happens
