Q6600 temps are lopsided

I have been OCing this all day and can't figure out what is wrong with it.

I've got my q6600 on 3.2 right now, but i've been up to 3.6 and my temps so odd.

here is what i'm getting.

Core # 0 ~ 35
Core # 3 ~ 30
Core # 2 ~ 30
Core # 1 ~ 38

now thats give or take a degree, but that division will always be there no matter how hot it gets.

I've reseated the heatsink twice and made sure there was an even coat of Artic Silver....

Is this normal?

I'm using CPUID Hardware monitor with a Q6600 GO and eVGA 780i

There is always going to be some difference in the core temps, and if the problem is the core calibration (done by Intel) or how the IHS is mounted, not much you can do about it.

What are your temps under 100% CPU load from Prime95 or OCCT? Since you have already remounted twice, check your temps under a proper Small FFT load or OCCT set to "CPU". If the temps look ok then, do not worry about it. If you can keep all cores under a good temp, its not terribly important about what the delta between the cores is.

Do i go by the hottest core? because the one gets up to 60 under full load, keep in mind these temps are from my 3.6 runs.

You are doing great then for 3.6, if your cooler was not mounted properly, the hottest core would be well over 60C Also remember with AS5 (I presume this is what you are using) your temps will go down over the next few days.

well i am doing really well, but its not very quite, i have a 92mm fan that is doing 120 at 4800. it sounds like a hair dryer.... but thats because i'm using my aluminum case, when i get my P182 it should muffle it alittle, my goal in all of this is to get to a solid 4, but from past experiance you slowly work your way up to the high numbers.

one of my cores runs 6 degrees hotter than the others, dont understand it but whatever

its not like i plan on making 4ghz my daily use, just trying to get it there for benching and such....

hi i have similar temp readings from my q6600 with true120 heatsink (2 core are always 5c higher than the other 2)...

in my case, it's the uneven contact of heatsink to cpu heat spreader that causes this issue.. prob due the weight of the true120 heatsink.. when the motherboard is upright, even with the spring/screws tightened, the hs still sits on a slight slant (downwards), causing less contact with the top side of the heatspreader.. i find if i apply slight force to push the hs upwards, i get even temps across all 4 cores..

maybe try to run the pc so the motherboard is horizontal to see if the temp variation still exists? this might help u figure out if it's a hs contact issue

nah but i got the same thing going on as well with my Q66 and an Apogee GTX. after jamming some games for a few hours last nite the max temp was 37C so im not worrying too much.

Getting to 4GHz with a Q6600 is a rare thing; I wouldn't get too upset if you can't manage it.

Mine's a little lopsided, but on mine cores 0+1 are consistently about 5C hotter than 2+3 under load. This appears to be an unusual pattern; 0+3 and 1+2 are generally 'paired' on other people's it seems?

I also noticed this when I first got my Q6600 (with Ultra 120 heatsink). At this moment, the 4 cores are reading 42, 43, 35 and 38.
