Q6600 Temperature Issue?

I need some help with this because im really not sure what temperature is accurate. I put together a DG33TL Mainboard config with a Q6600 and a Freezer 7 Pro. My CPU temp on post via the bios was 60C, but I noticed this temperature does not flucuate (or when it does its within +1c/hits 61c). I panicked however installed Vista to check with CoreTemp the values of each core temperature. Upon checking this utility I noticed CPU Core temps ranged from 28C up to 31C idle. My room is fairly cool and I left the speedstep funtionality enabled which seems to drop idle temps substantially. This temperature seems to fluctuate quite a bit under load while bios temp remains pretty much the same (again between 60 and 61c). I ran prime for 30 mins and the temps peaked at 45C. Im assuming this is the accurate temperature and that the bios is reporting is inaccurate?

What temperatures are accurate? Any suggestions? The socket to the touch if I reach around the edge of the heatsink (the socket brace) is cool.

Also of note this is a G0 stepping.

those temps are a bit high.. at idle i run about 30c and loads at 39c (although i am running on water..)

but on air it ran at about 40-45c idle

take off your hsf and re apply the thermal.. i would suggest as5/asC/shin etsu

you dont need more the maybe about the size of a bb and then spread it to cover the whole ihs of the cpu.
 
There is something definitely wrong.

Have you tried using Speedfan yet? Depending on the version of Speedfan you use, you be required to add 15C on top of the temp. that it gives you. Compare it with CoreTemp.
 
I tried everest and it reflects the coretemp temperatures as well. I think its something with the mainboard probe because the coretemp and everest reporting seems quite similar. All cores stay under 45C under load which makes me think its an issue with the reporting in the bios as far as that 60c temperature. That temperature did not fluctuate more than 1c when under full load while the delta between load and idle with CoreTemp and Everrest was roughly 10 - 15C.

do this..

touch the bottom of your hsf if its hot/burning hot then your temps are what you say..

if its warm/cold then you have no worries :)
 
Its just warm, my concern was the contact that is being made i suppose. If theres lack of contact it could potentially still be cool to the touch, the edge of the lga775 (on the mb) brace is touchable however and is cool to the touch. Base of the heatsink is also cool/warm so i think im ok!

Have you tried reseating your hsf?

Also check the flatness of the hsf and ihs. My Q6600 had two concaved spots on the ihs, and when I lapped it, I had a pretty good temp. improvement.
 
Ill give this a shot when i get home, Ive got a different heatsink I can try on it as well but was hoping to figure out which probe was more accurate (im def. leaning toward core temp as theres a decent delta in load and idle temps while I cant say this about the intel mainboard probe). Thanks for your suggestions.

My Q6600 reads in bios as 38c. Try CoreTemp in windows and see what your temps are. If it gives you the same reading then you more than likely don't have the heatsink and fan mounted right. I get 39-46c when I use coretemp. I would trust CoreTemp more than the BIOS. The BIOS reads from its own sensor. CoreTemp reads the internal digital temp within the core.

You need to read the PDF that is on Artic's website. There are different was of apply the thermal compound depending on the processor that you are using.

Just an FYI,

Switch heatsinks this evening to a zalman 9700 i had sitting around, turns out that it only dropped temps 2C.... at this point im going to venture and say the onboard probe is not accurate. Thermalpaste is perfect, nothing is hot to the touch.... under load coretemp tells me its at 44C.
