Q6600 Super High Temps

I am running a DFI LP UT 680i SLI motherboard and the Q6600. I have finally figured out how to get it to over clock and be pretty stable but I'm worried about the temps. I don't think they are right but I don't know how I can be sure. I am running 1.5V @ 3.3ghz and I'm hitting 80C under full load without much effort. I think it would go higher if I was pushing my 8800GTX also. The other concern I have is my Aux temp, which I think is the voltage regulators show an idle temp of 55C or so, and as soon as I run prim95 with 4 threads it jumps to 100C. I didn't even let it run long enough to see just how high it would go. Are these temps right? I'm water cooling the CPU with a triple radiator and 6 120mm fans in a push/pull configuration. I have a fan cooling the pwm heat sink and one cooling the NB. The NB stays around 45C all the time, so not a big deal on it. Have there been reports of the temps not being reported correctly for these cpu's or the board I am using perhaps? Thanks

Those temps sound extremly high. What kind of "costum" WC set up do you have? Possibly the 1.5 volts is ramping the temps up. I'm at 1.35v bios, 1.28 full load @ 3303mhz/367mhz, 1:1 ratio, 2.0 vmem, and 1.25 MCH. All that yeilds idle around 35C and max temps prime 12 hours 56C. My chip is a L723A. My loop is reasonably similar (bowed Apogee GT - MCP650 - dual 120 heatercore w/ 2 med airflow 120x25s) and I max at 65C under P95 with my B3 Q6600 at 3.5ghz 1.5v bios (Abit vdroop takes it down a bit at load). It really sounds like your block isn't making adequate contact. Have you bowed it? Some of the reviews point to that making a dramatic difference.
 
Yes I did bow the apogee. I am now planning on lapping the heat spreader on the CPU. The DFI has higher temps then the EVGA that I had previously. I didn't think much of it but I have had my system turn off a few times and I suspect because of heat. I tried running at 1.45V today at 3.15ghz and it froze at the desktop when it booted up. So either my chip is a dud and requires more juice or something is not right with my board. I never got my C2D that I had before this chip to run on low volts either. It was stable to 3.555 only if I ran 1.6V to it. The DFI has an option to tweak the GTL tables for the CPU which is some sort of voltage correction. I am going to mess with that some and see if I can lower my CPU voltage if I increase the GTL voltages. I started using everest to check my temps also, and with 4 primes running at the 3.15ghz at 1.5V 2 cores hit 73C after about 30 minutes.

My watercooling is in my signature..it should be capable of removing at least 500 watts of energy, the radiator stated 1,800 watts with a 10C differential in air/water temp. I'm probably more at 5C with my AC going full blast in my computer room. The water doesn't appear to even get noticeably warm either. All I know is I want to try to go for higher clocks then just 3.15 but I don't want to fry my chip!
 
Those temps are too high, as people have already said, but lapping the heatsink is not the answer. Remounting the heatsink on the CPU will help. A Tuniq Tower 120 with a B3 Q6600 @1.5 v BIOS (1.4 vdroop) gets about 40C idle, so I think that you simply need to remount it. Most people don't take their B3 higher because they are worried about the temps, these things don't handle the temps too well.

Sounds like a bad CPU block mount if the CPU temperature is high but the water doesn't feel warm.

Touch your radiator when the CPU is loaded. If it isn't warm, then it definitely is a bad mount.
 
could be a bad mount but come on guys... running a Q6600 @ 1.5 volts PLUS a 8800GTX is asking for high temps with a 120.3 radiator. You would be better server with two loops.
