Q6600 overclocking

I was just given an older Q6600. I threw it in my E8500 box to see what it would do.

I am having a hell of a time with it. I can get it to 3.6, and it never gets above 50C, but crashes in the OS randomly, even up to 1.5vcore. I have the memory unlinked running at 800 just to get the CPU stable. I've heard this mobo (the 750i) vroops a lot, and might try the fix. Anyone with the board/cpu combo have any ideas?

Theres also a HUGE FSB hole around 1600 mhz.
 
At 3.6, I'm assuming you have the G0 stepping. I would stay out of the 1.5v core. Also, if indeed you do have the G0, the sweet spot for performance/voltage has been around 3.3ghz for everyday usage. You really have to step up voltage, cooling, and start tinkering with VTT to get your 3.6ghz+ stable. IMHO, it's not worth it unless you're just overclocking for a hobby.
 
Any quality P35/P45 board should be able to take that quadcore to 475+ FSB settings.

I think you are correct in assuming it's the motherboard holding you back. I remember Nvidia boards not doing too well when it came to quadcore overclocking.

Is it stable at all at 3.5ghz? Why don't you drop the multiplier one, and try a 425-450 mhz FSB. Really find out if it's the board or not.
