I've got the Zalman 9500at, but I'm thinkin' it's not as good as others out there for a quaddie.

What are some good air coolers out there for this bad larry? it's the b3 stepping so keep that in mind. I'd LOVE to trade my 9500 + cash for something better..

Recommend up!

The stock Intel cooler is very underrated. You can get 90% the same cooling performance out of it as expensive coolers simply by using decent compound instead of the sticky garbage that comes stuck on it. (provided you have similar air flow/proper installment)

Low end air coolers vs high end air coolers.... = still both air coolers.

If you cant reach a certain speed at say 60c getting down to 50c is not likely going to help.

q6600 @ 5.2ghz (soon)
And you plan to do this with which air cooler?

oh my. I need to edit my sig. :p that's a random thing I did to see what people would say.

umm. I'm running at 60c right now on my current HSF, Wouldn't a tuniq or TRUE bring it a good deal lower?

BTW, I'm running at 3.0ghz

<<< Less than 60c (CoreTemp or RealTemp), G0 @ 3.6/1.475 (1.4 CPU-Z) Dual F@H SMP Load... Ambient, I don't really know, but probably somewhere in the range of Tukson's (21c/70f'ish, give or take).

I'd go for the Xigmatek 1283 (or it's twin, the Kingwin above), it's all the rage right now.. Trades blows w/ the TRUE @ $20-30+ less (no fan on the TRUE remember). As to whether it would be significantly lower than your current setup, I don't know - not enough info - ie: volts applied, ambient and so forth.. But the Zalman is certainly well outclassed nowadays. If I had to venture a guess though, you should be able to shave quite a noticeable amount off the load temps though.

And the TT V1 above, is NOT cheap at all, given the price/performance of the 1283.

ps Mwave has the 1283 on discount ATM, $37-$5 instant=$32+shipping.. Depending on the shipping charge of course, more/less the same price as the 'Egg had the other week for either the S1283 or RS 1283 w/ free shipping..

[edit] And Newegg's still got it @ $37/free ship right now, no code needed.

Two things to note:
1) It's TALL.. Barely fits in my Armor 8003 w/ the big side panel fan....
2) May need to (read: probably should) alter the TIM application method, due to the exposed heatpipe arrangement + gaps + whatnot, as opposed to what's given on the AS5 site for example.

^^^^ Benchmark Reviews.

I personally grabbed an Ultima90, same fin and heatpipe arrangement as a TRUE but 3/4 the size... and weight. With a 120mm fan on it, it cools within a few degrees of the TRUE.

I recommend TRUE120 as well, it's great. Want something better than that? Then it's on to water cooling, better than that? Phase cooling.

Then liquid nitrogen. And then, liquid helium. And then, just ditch your PC in space. :D

Hehe... I'm a bit worried to use cooling that gets my temperatures below zero, condensation and all that...
