Q6600 Causing lockups

I upgraded my computer last night from an E6600 to a Q6600 and it constantly locks up. Sometimes it will lockup at the bios screen, sometimes it will get as far as the windows vista login screen.

Below are my specs and everything I did any help would be appreciated.

System Specs

Evga NF68 680I motherboard
CPU = Q6600SL9UM
4gb Gskill ram - as listed on their site running at 4-4-4-12 2.0v.
Evga 8800 gtx
2 - segate 320gb hard drives.
650 watt Antec P/S


Motherboard was flashed to the latest version P31 from their site, and then re-flashed back to P30 to see if that was an issue, After being flashed defaults were loaded, saved and rebooted and then reset to what they were previously, no overclocking at all and the only setting to be changed is the memory as stated above.
 
Any idea what the temps are?
Can you stay in windows long enough to check them..

Could possibly be lack of power with your 650 watt PSU, I have the exact same system with twice the memory but using a 750Watt PSU with no issues.
 
I don't think it's a PS issue at all, look at my psu (although it has great efficiency)...still, that shouldn't be the problem.

Try booting with only 2 sticks of ram. Knock voltage up to 2.1 on those...

Let's see if that helps.
 
yea i agree try 2 gb of ram instead of 4 sticks of 1gb, if that doesn't help i got no idea, a bad cpu maybe
 
I was able to check the temp 1 or 2x from the bios and it was around 132F which seems normal to me.

I contacted newegg and they told me it could take abot 2 weeks to get a new one because of their rma process or i could send it back for a refund and order a new one, i dont like either option because i will be down to long, i have projects to finish and gaming to do rofl... So i contact my old employer who is an intel channel partner and they are going to rma the cpu for me and i should get a replacement tomorrow.

I hope i get the G0 stepping this time the other one was the B3 but i highly doubt they will change it.
 
132F in BIOS is WAY too hot.......you have got a problem there for sure....
 
then let's reseat the cpu and take out 2 sticks of DDR; Also make sure the DDR voltage is right, and bump it up to 2.1; lastly, just to make sure, do you have the 12v plugs from the PSU in and double check the other connections/psu.
 
I got my replacement cpu its the G0 version wohoo at least 1 thing went right, anyways i put the cpu in and the system runs fine again, in the bios though under the system monitor its still its running at 124-133F or 56C on the cpu, you said that is high? what is the normal range ? the only thing i changed was the memory settings to the 4-4--4-12 and 2.0v the gskill memory i am using says it will go up to 2v so i didnt push it any further than that.

Will it help if i remove the thermal paste and put on the artic silver i have?

Try getting a 40mm fan and mounting it to the north bridge. Most boards have the north bridge placed in such a way that an afermarket cooler blocks the air flow to them. I found that the Evercool EC 4010 is very quiet (almost no hi pitch whine) and blows plenty of air I now make it standard an my builds. Edit I thought it was the northbridge temps he quoted not the CPU. Still add the fan to keep headachs away
 
I am using the EVGA 122-CK-NF68-A1 motherboard that already has the fan, the only thing i can think of is the power supply seems to be alot of heat coming out of it.
 
the voltage on the motherbnoard could be too high or too low.

can you try a lower voltage in the bios. see if it get better or worse. if it is worse, then increase it. the bios might be setting a voltage which is actually too low (measured) than what it says.
 
at stock, keep your voltage down, my VID on mine says 1.2750V, it varies, but the stock 1.37v the bios was giving my cpu was enough for me to post as high as 3.9ghz.

So set it to something like 1.35 (with vdroop it should be lower), ram set it around 2.1V I think with those timings, most performance ram would run 2.1-2.2V.

As suggested earlier, reseat the CPU. Overclocked I still have a 38C idle in a 26C ambient room temp. (with speedstep dropping to 2.7ghz from 3.6)

With speedstep on you should be low 30's at stock... something's not right.
 
Still confused, I tried all different settings and lowest i could get the temp was around 126F, but the weird thing is i loaded PC2008 and it says 120F so i am not sure which to believe..
 
you should use temperature measurement that is technical and the rest of the world can understand without converting.

have you checked how well the heatsink is on the CPU? it might not be touching properly,
 
To reinforce your original thought, OP, take the HSF off and try a reseat with Arctic Sivler; check their website for application instructions.

55C would be too hot to be idle in bios for me, something isn't right.
 
I went out today and got an Artic Freezer 7 pro cpu fan and using the artic silver 5 instructions applied the thermal paste as instructed,I booted up and the temps did drop some more; they are currently

48C - 118F for cpu, 41C- 106F for board and 58C-136 for Mcp

the cpu seems to be coming into the range as everyone suggested, with the artic silver i guess there in a so called burn in period so hopefully it will drop even further once that is over with.

Thinking more and seeing another post about Q6600 high temps, it seems the person also asking about the high temps us using the same case as me the Thermaltake Tsunami so it might be a case issue with crappy airflow. What is a good case to use if i decide to change? My wifes computer is in a Antec P180 case of course she cannot stand it and wants a cheap model i bought for her a while ago.
