Okay... I'm currently looking for the best all around board for the q6600. (Since the price drop).
1) I've totally been out of the computer scene for about a year now.
2) The last intel I owned was a P3.


Basically I would like to know what board will give me the best overclocking abilities. I've looked around at the boards and there's several... some even have multiple revisions... I'm confused.
I am also looking for a good 2 or 4gb kit if you guy's could recommend any.

I'm using the EVGA 68-A1 680i board, it has good reviews for overclocking all components. Be aware that people have had problems overclocking with 4x1GB installed. I hear the issue can be resolved (in Vista at least) with some updates to windows. I have 4x1GB in my setup and will have the joy of facing that issue as soon as my CPU comes in. Most people that OC well seem to use 2GB.
 
Well I figured the more sticks the harder... or was the case "back in the day" ...
I've just been itching for a new proc and waiting for this price drop.
 
Well check out this SITE. It will also support the 45nm Penryn so that you don't have to upgrade the motherboard once again if you decided to get rid of your q6600.

Thank you so much! That is awesome. My board supports the 45nm parts! Woot!!!

Hmm... the q6600 may have just lost its power over my upgraditis. :D
 
Would 2x2GB do better than 4X1 for those who haven't bought the memory yet for 680i based boards? Not looking to OC the memory too much as it seems to have minimal impact on apps or benchmarks, just want reasonable timings at ~400 / 800 mhz.
 
Asus has a page where it shows what boards will also support the new 1333mhz FSB CPUs, all while still using DDR-2 memory...looks like all I'll need for my P5B Deluxe is a BIOS update (once I get it repaired/replaced since it totally died on me)...
