I recently installed my new Q6600 B3 stepping and have overclocked it to 3.0Ghz. One thing that I am finding really interesting is that I cannot run the FSB above 1333MHz, no matter what I do. I've tried dropping the multiplier down to 7 and 8, but it will just not boot passed 1333MHz. I am currently running it on an eVGA 680i A1 with the most recent BIOS update (P31).

Anyone happen to know if this is just a limitation of the chip or possibly the mobo? I figured that if 3.0 was the max clock speed, I could at least drop my multiplier and run my memory at a higher speed.

There are fsb holes that have to be worked around and the p31 bios seems to have shifted some of those holes. If no one on here has an answer for you check at the evga website forum.

I can assure you it's not the Q6600 as I have the same one and it's running at 3.1GHz but on an ASUS P5N-e.

i'm pretty sure that the problem isn't with the processor. i got my friend's B3 quad to 353x9 stable within the first 2 hours of putting it together. try doing like 340/345/350x8 and see what happens.

I would love to try & go higher but I hit my wall at 1400FSB (rated).
So I am looking around at better boards.

I would try the p30 bios before you give up on that board because it overclocks as good as any 680i board.

Well I bumped my multi down to 8 and still cannot get above 333 (1333) FSB. It throws a 50 error code (USB Controller).

Guess I can try and roll back the bios to a previous one. I know it's not my memory as I was running it at 400FSB with an E4300.

Well, after some voltage tweaking and possibly an act of God. I've managed to get it stable at 8x400 (3.2GHz) with my memory running 1:1 at 4-4-4-15-1T :D

I have my B3 running at 8*400 for an hour with 4xP95..1.5 volts. Then it bluescreens on me. I am using Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme with AS5. 3gig is stable for me though. I dont' understand why after an hour at 4*800 it bluescreens...heat? This is on my Asus P5K vanilla board with 4x1 gig of ram latest bios.

Let me ask you guys this. In my Vista properties it is telling me the cpu is running at 2.4 gig. But when I fire up cpu-z it tells me 3005 which is what I want it at. If Vista is telling itself that it's at 2.4 in the my computer props, will it work at 3.0 gig that cpu-z is telling me its at? Thanks.

You have a setting enabled in the bios that slows down the cpu. Speedstepping or something? I forget which it is.

I was able to boot vista with 400x9 on the B3 with my q6600. But it likes to play games at 370x9
