Q6600 + 680i problems

This is my very first INTEL build ever. Finally switching from AMD. I have a retail q6600 + 680i. After starting pc, gets to the Window Splash screen and then shuts off. Only thing I did notice was temp in bios skyrocketed to 110 C. What are normal temps? I'm seeing 60+ average. Is this the cause of my problem. I am using stock HSF. ;(
 
Your HSF might not be on all the way. Make sure the push pins are in the "locked" position AND firmly presed down.

You shouldn't have a problem with the heat getting that high BUT the stock cooler isn't enough IMO for a quaddie.

I have similar machine with you, What is your vcore????
 
the heatsink that came with mine was a pos. the pins would not stay down in the mobo. so i mounted it outside of the case and it warped the board with all the pressure.
 
As others said, replace the HSF, it's horrible.

Don't expect much of an OC with a quad on a 680i though. Just fair warning there.
 
i gave up on overclocking on my b3 q6600 with xfx 680i board. it runs too hot, even with a zalman 9500. idle temps run around 50c :(
 
check and double check the cooler. I had the same problem with my q6600 attaching to my 680i.

I gave that thing up and got a Zalman cooler.
 
The 680i should hit around 3 to 3.4 depending on the chip you get and the bios you are running. I had to find the "magic bios" for my board to hit 3.2...

Ditch the stock fan and get the TRUE or something like that, you will be much happier with the temps and the speed boost the oc gives you.
