Q-tec -- any good ?

i have never heard of that, but it looks low quality. I can see it cooling an older system well but i very much doubt it has the ability to cool a modern system well at all

hell no, they have a reputation to for going bang. Dont buy it.

Also although they say 450w they are actually no where near it. The 550 is half way decent but imo its just better to go for quality in this area.

Get a Zalman 400, single fan, quite , runs warm.

or Antec are supposed to be good.

Make sure you calculate how much power you will need aswell.

It goes something like this.

AGP Video Card 30 – 50W +3.3V
CD-RW 10 – 25W +5V and +12V
7200rpm IDE Hard Drive 5 – 20W +5V and +12V
7200rpm IDE Hard Drive 5 – 20W +5V and +12V
7200rpm IDE Hard Drive 5 – 20W +5V and +12V

Motherboard (w/o CPU or RAM) 25 – 40W +3.3V and +5V
RAM 8W per 128MB +3.3V
AMD Athlon Processor - 70W +12V

Aim for arount 70-80% of PSU output rating, but make sure the manufacturer is not lying as in the case of Q-tec

Look at the specs, 70 LPH? That is just under 20 gph... AND that is worse than my POS pump at 80. Most good ones run about 300 or so. Second look at the lines, they are 1/4 tubing if I had to guess which also means that not a lot of water is moving through the system. If you just want water in your computer, great but if you want it to actually cool the cpu, try again.

this has me thinking about making a very small w/c system like that...biggest problem is the rad. The smallest workable heatercore is the one from dangerden (that i know of anyway) and its still kind of big.

german style systems seem to manage to do well with this...
but dont let me turn this into one of those threads.
