Q 9450 and prime...fail?

My bro just put his new pc together, but when he stresses the 9450, Prime fails. Any input guys? It's a brand new cpu. Does Prime just have issues with quad cores? I mean, it looks to run fine, but of course, there's no way to tell if a core is broken unless you use a stress test/bench. Is there another program that is written specifically for quad cores to test?

EDIT:

System: Win Xp, 500 watt Antec PSU, two 7200 RPM Samsung HDs, two ATi 3870s, 4 gigs of ram.
 
Are you on stock settings? Prime doesn't have issues with quads... I just ran Prime on my quad last night and it passed with flying colors.
 
Small or large FFTs are failing?

Large will test more ram, also use memtest #8 for that. Small FFT will test CPU. Try re-mounting the CPU cooler - RMA otherwise.
 
is the heatsink seated properly? what kind of temps do you have? if it's not on right, high temps will cause errors.
