Right now I have an Nvidia Dual TV Tuner in my HTPC. Since the Direct TV HD box only comes out HDMI is there any PVR card out there that will take HDMI in?

I do know I can still record SD with the Nvidia Dual TV card off a standard direct tv box. I do have an Old Direct TV Toshiba HD Box that I can put in my living room that does have Coaxial connections but then I lose the ability to view the local channels because i was told it does not have that capability. The Toshiba HD box does have a built in ota tuner as well but I am not sure if it converts the digital signal once it comes in through the receiver.

The model of the Toshiba Direct TV HD box is a DST-3100. Am I better off just to pull the card and sell off the Toshiba and go with a Direct TV DVR?

Thanks
Jason

Everything I've found with HDMI input won't accept anything with HDCP. Whenever I want to capture HDTV, I just use the firewire output on my cable box instead, though that may not be an option for you.

you are out of luck if its using hdcp as the other poster mentioned. If it has component hd outputs, you could try the hauppauge hd-pvr.

If your HTPC is up to it your only option is the Hauppuage HD-PVR.

But getting the DVR might be a better option.

a little explaination to crims reply...HDCP doesnt apply to analog connections. Component is analog, yet still HD. thus you circumvent HDCP.

Thanks for the replies guys. But I have a question. Since its taking in an analog component feed instead of HDMI, wouldnt the HDCP encryption downscale the content to 540p?

Ok so if I understand correctly. If I can come component out, I still get HD like I would say out of a stand alone HD DVD or Blue Ray player but with out the restriction of down sampling?

Is that correct?

If remember right, if you rip an HD type movie to your hard drive, and then play it back through Component, You can still get higher resolutions such as a 720P or 1080i connection? Is this correct?

Thanks,

Jason
