PVC pipe for case structure?

Is using pvc piping for the case frame a good idea? I was thinking with BTX looming ahead, I would just make a case framework with interchangable mobo trays.

I would think that PVC piping would be too brittle for a case frame. But I've never really worked with PVC so I can't really say for sure. Have you thought about what diameter piping you might use?

Sounds like an original idea though, keep ya busy if nothing else.

I think the smallest diameter is around 3/16 of an inch but don't quote me on that. It won't be brittle, since the frame would be built upon a network of PVC grids.

I just built a robot frame out of PVC. And the robot is nothing more then a Micro-ATX computer on wheels. That seems to know exactly where to get to be under foot or when to rush the door in a bid for freedom.

The penultimate design. I redesigned the camera mount, but the design is pretty much the same. After gluing them together, it has no problems slamming into the wall full tilt. And the glue is only on the bottom bits with wheels. Everything else is a friction fit. I'm not at home right now, but I believe it is 1/2 inch.

Don't toss it around too much. PVC = easy to break. Why not go copper and use the entire frame as a big rad? :D
