I am getting MSDBA certified through work as well as getting some network security certs soon. I want a server I can beat around with server 2003, SQL and maybe even dual boot Linux. I have a Tyan S2510(I think) laying around with 512 mb of ram ready to go. I can get 2 800mhz processors for about 80 bucks and about 512 more mb of ram (It has to be Registered not sure about the ECC but the stuff I have is so thats what I would get if I bought more) for another 80 bucks. I have some SCSI drives and a couple controlers but neither will fit in the 64 bit PCI slots. I was thinking about picking up a SCSI 160 controler for about 50 bucks and using the drives. I am also going to have to buy a new PSU but that has to happen no matter what I do.
Thoughts? Suggestions? You think this is a total waste of money? I might be able to build a dual athlon xp system for not much money either....hmmm
