Can I take an HD with XP 32bit and put it in a new PC with Vista 64 installed on a new HD and access the files from the XP HD.

I am not talking booting from the XP HD. I just have alot of files I need on my old drive.

Thanks,
ButchB

no reason you cant , i dot it all the time but i pop them into a usb case or external dock to recover files for people before reloading their PC etc

Thanks for the reply!!

I thought I could just add the old drive but just wasn't sure if Vista 64bit would open XP 32bit files and folders.

My other choise was a KVM switch and run both PC's. It would have been a great deal more expensive.

Thanks,

I don't know about the 32bit to 64 bit switch there but I believe it will work. Worst case scenario it just won't work. You won't lose any content on the drive.

i was able to do it between the systems in my sig. XP32 to Vista64.

32-64 has nothing to do with reading a hard drive.

yeah the os wont matter its still stored on a readable file system
