I have a SFF and i would like to add a 2.5" hdd in there. How should i go about it? it is a sata drive so i dont think i need converters. Do i need 3.5" to 2.5" bay bracket?

thanks

I think the 2.5 inch SATA power plug is smaller, look on newegg for an adapter. It would come in a kit that includes the rails, though you could use double sided foam tape to mount it almost anywhere.

It's the same on hard drives, smaller on notebook dvd drives AFAIK.

I used the existing holes for the hard drive rail, but only used one screw. Bad I know, but it tight and I rarely move the shuttle around.

You could stick it somewhere with double sided foam sticky tape, that's what I did, with a old IDE laptop HDD.

But then what's the point of using a 2.5" HDD?
3.5 ones are so much cheaper, faster, have more storage, etc...

i have couple 2.5 hdd laying around. Just want to put them to some use.

how stable is the hdd when you used double sided tape? a lot of vibration?

No worse than the rubber band things a lot of cases use to mount the HDDs with now...
The tape holds pretty well too, just cover the side with the circuit board [so as to not wreck the label] and stick it wherever it works, I stuck mine to the bottom of the case in the pci slot area, if you use a pci card in that slot with no large protrusions it shouldn't affect it.

Good point, but for me, adapting 2.5 to 3.5 wouldn't be for an HDD but an SSD, which uses a 2.5 form factor. I think SSDs are not only naturals for laptops but for SFFs like Shuttle. But I read some comments over at Newegg, that putting a 2.5 into a Shuttle P2 3.5 drive bay isn't hassle-free.
