boot my ram at 1800 with qpi at 4.8 (1.21v) and cpu at 2.85 (1.15v), loads windows...boot my ram at 1700 with qpi at 5.44 (1.21v) and cpu at 2.72 (1.15v) won't post. tried bumping vtt to 1.25, 1.29, 1.35, 1.39 and still won't boot. dropped vtt back down to 1.21v, raised ram ratio lowering ram to 1360 so qpi is back to 5.44 (1.21v) and cpu still at 2.72 (1.15v) works great.

do I need to raise pch core voltage or cpu pll voltage? at small increases it doesn't seem to make a difference. is it possible that my ram just can't overclock when the qpi is above stock speeds?
 
Is your uncore speed set to at least twice the RAM speed you are trying to achieve?

And why are you running the CPU at that low of a speed? Are you usingthe stock cooler or just testing the RAM?

If so, it is almost a guarantee that when you raise the CPU speed and/or BCLK, you won't be able to run the RAM as high as you could when the CPU and/or BCLK was at the lower speed.

Also, with a higher RAM speed, it will probably limit your max BCLK when compared to running the RAM at a lower speed.
 
it is not but I didn't think this was an issue on P55...sry for not clarifying. if the rule does still apply then I would be lucky to get my ram up to it's stock 1600 as my overclock has been pretty weak sauce. the uncore is locked at 18x so I'd have to run my ram at 8x since 10x won't follow the rule.

I am using a s1283v dark knight in an antec ninehundred two, it's blowing out the rear 120 bc I can't mount it pointing out of the HUGE blow hole on the top bc of the heatsinks on my ram. at 3.57ghz 1.3vcore (unstable...guess I need more volts??) my temps are getting into the high 70's : / the main reason I was running CPU so low was to get my qpi AND ram up so I can start raising my CPU multi...appreciate the heads up with potential issues down the road :)
