Push or Pull => radiator <=, justification?

It just seems to be preference from what I've seen.

Someone with experience in fluid dynamics might be able to sort this out...

Note that this isn't a question of whether to move air into the case vs moving it out.
 
i don't think it matters honestly, because no matter which way you have the fans blowing, net airflow and any kind of blockage would be the same... i'm gonna be doing a push setup with my external water cooling rig, but i could turn them around and still have the same airflow and the same temps, it wouldn't matter at all
 
Most of advice ive seen is to put them in a pull situation. Ive had better temps in this situation also. The reason from what I understand is this allows even movement of air though the rad, vs on the push the air isnt as even across the rad. But as always what ever gives u the best temps, and the best situation for your application.

With that logic you may as well tell people that a single 90cfm fan on a 2x120mm radiator is just as good as a two 45cfm fans. I don't think this works out ;)

Without any other knowledge or a background, I agree with kenpomasta.
 
almost every high end rig I have seen has had a pulling effect, If you look at any of the production wc rigs they all pull.

pushing will have the effect of fighting rebound air turbulance while pulling doesn't. So even with a higher cfm fan, you might still get worst air flow compare to pulling since you will have more rebound air to fight off.

zactly. Pull is better.
 
I have tried both in my rig and must say that "pull" seems to be the best option for me. On average got about 2-3C better results on my system temps.
 
Computer fans are not made to fight back-pressure which they get plenty of in a push setup. Set them up in pull. You could always do push/pull, and end the debate.
 
On the couple of water cooled setups I had, pull always worked better. I tried push, pull and push-pull setups, and by pulling temps dropped a degree or two over pull, and with push-pull setups temps were the same as pull only.
