Masked and sketched.

And some reinforced cut-off wheels

I'll be uploading pictures as I go, though it will be quite slow.
I can't paint until it gets warmer.

I Need Suggestions!

All other cases will be n00bs, like, licking your case's balls? :D Gonna love to see where this one goes!

file that, then deburr it with sandpaper.
I have to buy some files tomorrow.

This paint I bought doesn't have temp recommendations, would 5 degrees celsius be too cold?

Most spray paint works best between 65-80* F or 18-26* C. 5* c is pretty cold you might have problems with the paint going on even and it might not stick and dry properly. If your going to do it at that temp i would spray the parts real quick and then bring them inside to dry.

Pwn it up man :D... this could be really cool. Definitely spend lots of time filing those edges and getting the P's to look as flawless as possible. I've realized in my modding that ton's of filing makes me much happier later on.

/Subbed

I use a small heater in my shed to bring the room to temp and then leave it on for 2 hrs while the paint semi cures, then take them indoors to cure fully. That way your house doesnt smell like a spray shop.

Fuck, it's STILL way too cold in the garage even after plugging in a ton of heaters.

I left the paint to dry and cure over a couple days, it didn't adhere properly or something. Big mess during sanding.

This is post-poned till warmer weather. Or if I can convince my parents to let me paint in the Laundry room.

you can stick a tent in the laundry room to paint in, and then suck the air out with some box fans.

Your supposed to paint in open areas! I think I'd die from the fumes.

no, not if you're [H] ;)

serious, you could get a mask....then cover up all things in your laundry and there you go !!!

I've seen some guys warm the paint cans in hot water before painting... but I think that's to get a "thinner" paint so it goes on better - like glass. Minimizes the sanding between coats.

You could paint it outside; then carefully bring it inside... but still have to deal with the fumes.

I feel I should post up some more pics of the case.

STILL too cold to paint.

I bought some bondo, and spot putty today, so I'ma work on the bezel.

In all it's beige-y goodness.

Now this I have to see. I have the exact same case behind me in a pile somewhere.

Did it have a pentium in it as well? :p

I think it was a PIII. I'm not sure though.

Also, I had an idea for the Bezel. To give it more reinforcement I am going to use plexi with holes for the 2 120mm fans. I'll have the mesh over top.

haha.. I want to see this casemod get done. Paint down your basement or something if you have one. I always paint in my basement, just make sure you have fans going to circulate the air and bring in fresh air, and lay down plenty of newspaper to catch the overspray. If its too cold outside, the paint never turns out right from my experiences. I'd say 60 degrees F to 80 degrees F with low humidity works best. Work with lots of light as well.

I'm gonna try and paint in the laundry room sometime soon.

I'll just have find alot of plastic/newspaper to cover up stuff.

This case will be sa-weet for WCing.

Too bad I don't have any gear. :(
Oh well.

To properly mount the second 120 behind the bezel, I need to get rid of the 3' 14" drive bays.
(Gotta do a bunch of cutting to make it fit. The cage's slidy bars will be going out)

So I figure I'll kill two birds with one stone. I'll buy a Thermaltake iCage and swap out the blue LED for a Red.

First fan mounted, and space for the HDDs.
I'll need to do some cutting to put in the second.

Picto0rz soon.

Edit - Blah, the iCage is out of stock.
I'll try and find something in the FS section

Blah.

This case won't be sweet for WCing.
I traded my 6800 for some stuff, but I can't, for the life of me, see how I'm going to fit everything.

Dual 5 1/4 Res takes the spot the iCage was going to go.
No room in back to mount 120mm RAD. (Stupid old cases)
Nor room in the front with the 3 1/2 bays in.

Not going to be fun. :(

Go for it! I just about finished up the latest round of mods for my aging LianLi a few weeks ago and executed many similar ideas. I have some hex modder's mesh ready to go into the bezel over the weekend to finish it off...see pics in the worklog I just created:

Project: Flow

Edit: Pics removed, added link, all cleaned up. :D

Remove the image tags and everything is fine. :p

How did you mount your HDD on it's side to the case?

I'll have to do something similar with my Hard drive

I'm using a suspension tray that's designed to mount in a 5.25 bay. It's similar to the No-Vibes branded piece, but a generic that I picked up for $12 a couple years back. All I did to mount it that way was to mark a position for the bracket and drill mounting holes in the floor of the case. I then re-tapped the holes in the bracket to accept a 6-32 screw, then ran them in from the bottom. Not sure if I have pics, but I used cap head stainless screws to bolt it in...

I think you can make your case work, and you have a kick ass concept. If you end up watercooling it with a decent size rad, the small exhaust may not hurt it too much. I was lucky enough to barely squeeze a 120 on the back panel of my LianLi. Stick with it. :D

Tom

If I used a T Line (Which I am considering) I could butcher up the case some more to fit a 2X 120 RAD in the front. I'm only getting a single 120 though. I'll snap some pictures of the case right now sometime today.

I'll have to wait till the rad comes to cut the plexi.

(The plexi w/ rad will be mounted to the case. The mesh will be mounted to the bezel.)

Pictures of today's work -

Hacked up the front of the case

Removed the rails and the HDD cage to allow clearance of the Rad.
I'll be screwing the HDD onto the bottom of the 5 1/4 bays

Looking good.

It's weird seeing someone mod such an old case. That I have sitting behind me with an old Pentium in it. :D

Meh. It still works.

And it has room for two 8800GTXs.

I think I'll do a second revision later when I have the cash to buy a spare Centruion 5 or similar.

I drilled in the holes for the HDD. I'll slap some rubber in between the case and drive to reduce noise.

Looking good man, keep up the good work. I'll be watching this one... :D
