ok first off, i only shop at www.newegg.com :D they are the best.

Right now almost every 6800 is sold out, but I was looking at getting this one from Gigabyte :

Who has this card that can tell me if it is worth it, and does the cooler on this fan work like it is suppost to ? what are your avg temps when not gamming and when gamming.

Also to unlock the other pipelines and the vertex shaders, what brand is best for this ?

Thx for all replys ;)

Thx for the replys :D

I have hear alot of people talk about the Evga brand, are they reliable cards ? and are they good for OC ?

The BFG is always sold out, and I have heard that they are bad for unlocking the extra piplines.

Opinions ?

evga is usually good and priced generously so they tend to be popular.

Do you own a EVGA 6800 and if so did you try to unlock the extra piplines and vertex shader ? how did it work out if so ?

nope, not a 6800, i know evga is a decent company and has quality products, but as for this specific card. no clue.

dont get the 6800 at all... go for the 6800 gt or the 6600 gt. the 6600 gt will beat the normal 6800 in almost everything, if you plan to oc than 6800 is allrite, but best bang for your buck is 6600 gt. if your a pc intheusiest than 6800gt is the way to go i have bfg's 6800 gt oc and it is about the same as the ultra. also $100 cheaper.

Actually the 6800gt will beat the 6800...however a 6600gt will NOT BEAT a 6800. THe only real thing it offers in most is that of dual dvi (select brands).

6600> 6600gt > 6800 (NU) > 6800 GT > 6800 Ultra > 6800 Ultra Extreme

Exactly, and I am purchasing this card with Tax refund left overs so I don't have extra cash to put towards this card to go for a 6800GT

Anyone that has unlocked piplines on a 6800 plz post your card what you got and plz post the brand, it will def help me out alot. So far I am going to get the eVGA based on the amonut of + thinks I have heard about eVGA.

Thx

at stock speeds it cant take advantage of its 16 pipelines and it barely beats the 6600gt 4 fps is hardly enuff to justifuy $100 extra....

I picked up a BFG 6800 OC from the local BB a few days ago. I successfully unlocked to a full 16x6 no problem... Made a nice difference in 3dmark05 too (went from ~3400 locked to ~3800 after unlocking). That jump was made without any other overclocks to core/mem also...

+1 for the BFG :)

Click one page ahead and you'll see where that extra $100 comes into play  . I'd suggest reading the whole article before you try using it to put down a very good card. In each of the tests on the next page the 6800 has 10-15 more fps than the 6600GT. That is without the 16 pipe mod too right? My performance went up a lot with the 16 pipe mod on my eVGA 6800. Couldn't unlock the extra vertex but my 3dmark03 score went from around 9,000 to around 11,000 with the pipe mod and a moderate overclock.

Go to Fry's and buy the PNY 6800NU for $249.99:

http://shop3.outpost.com/product/4122813?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

That's about $50 more than a 6600GT. I would say it is worth it because of the potential of unlocking all 16 pipes and 6 vertex shaders. Plus the 256-bit memory interface helps alot at higher resolutions. With unlocked pipes and a good OC, that card is a beast. But even at stock settings, it still beats out the 6600GT by about 5-10%.

Also, if you look again at the link above to Tom's Hardware, the typical trend is that the 6800's lead over the 6600GT increases as the resolution is increased.

In fact, despite the advantage of the 6600GT in benchmarks like 3DMark03 over the 9800Pro (~8,000 vs ~5,500), the 9800Pro still beats it in a few game benchmarks, likely due to the 128-bit memory interface of the 6600GT vs the 256-bit of the 9800Pro. Do not underestimate the importance of a 256-bit memory interface, especially at higher resolutions.

I have the BFG 6800 OC and had no problems unlocking the pipes and shaders. I run 16x6 and get around 4200 in 3DMark2005.

Take a look on the Forsale board. There are plenty of people selling 6800NU's. I would go with either BFG or Leadtek. BFG has a lifetime warranty and Leadtek is the quietest 6800 with the stock HSF.

well I decided to go with the EVGA, because everyone that I have talked to has had a good expierence with the EVGA getting overclocked, and unlocking the pipelines, and the shaders. Also because it was cheaper and it was a choice from www.newegg.com of the Gigabyte or the EVGA ( nothing else in stock ) I will post here when I get the card and let you guys know the results. Thx for the recommendations guys :D

Thx

MSI 6800NU would have been a great pick as well. Its what I have. Awesome stock cooling and comes with a shit load of free games and software.

Nice pick

Thx :D

And I did not make my purchase based on software, I already had Farcry that came with the BFG bundle, and I did not care about any of the games on the gigabyte bundle, and the EVGA that I got comes with no software  so :p its ok, I think I am gonna be really happy with this card.

Nice pick! Is there any chance I can trade for your old 9700. My brother bought a used CAD machine for gaming. It has a Quadro 4 NVS 200 though which is really nice, but not meant for gaming. It can display dual screens and is a great spare card to have. I could also trade you:

Actiontec Call Waiting modem
Splinter Cell
Risk
Gravis Eliminator Gamepad
GF2 MX200
Warcraft 3

I got a Evga 6800 at jerkit city for $300 with $50 mail in rebate.
Unlocked the pipes and vertex shaders. OCed it for a while, the performace change vs the extra heat output was not enough to really give a shit about. Its been rock solid for a month and a half.
