Lo all,

I'm just wondering about if there are any implications about purchasing a laptop from america (I live in the uk). My main concern is about the power, seeing as over here in the UK we use 240V rather than the US 125(or something).

I'm asking this because currently the exchange rate is really good and i can shave off a few £100's purchasing from there.

Also, would there be any extra charges with getting the laptop over here?

Thanks

David

As far as the power adaptor goes most of the laptop ones do 100~250V AC at 50~60Hz so you should be covered. I primarily deal with dells and they all do this. You will have to either get the plug adaptor to plug it in or replace the last half of the cord that plugs into the adaptor to get your style plug.

Don't know about import duties, I try to stay away from shipping my ebay stuff overseas.

UK customs will stiff you with VAT, and I seem to recall there is an import tax on high tech items, but I cannot find any references to it. Also you will have a US keyboard, and I know from experience that UK customs used to look at keyboards to determine where the Notebook was bought. Keep the tax receipt with you if you travel.

Agreed, and it extends to all brands that I know of. I'm in Afghanistan, and here there is only one place that we have designated for using lappies--every plug is 220. No one has had a problem with that at all. The plug adapters are real cheap, too, but you probably already know that.
